The Forest

We call it "forest", but what we really meant is wild. Or unknown. Or dangerous. What we are refering to, is the area or our world where the shards are free to live, interact and turn into ghosts that will also exist freely.
The results are usually dangerous for people, which is why most of the forest is forbidden sectors or restricted to certain members of the Company. We have tried all kinds of methods to keep the ghost undisturbed and the people safe, but it doesn't always help.

An evergrowing place?

At first we thought it was a mistake, because how could it grow? The forest is "everywhere else", after all.
The Cartographer must have been wrong when he noticed that the most distant reference point was farther than he remembered and the map showed.
He verified that the instruments were working right, read the maps, and took the meassurments again. He asked for a second opinion when he got the same results. Soon, a whole team was looking for a mistake in the maps, and checking that the trees and mountains hadn't just grown feet and relocated themselves (it would be the first time that several reference points do that at the same time, but that didn't mean it was impossible).
They didn't find any signs of that happening, and... I don't know what to tell you, okay? If one stops to think about it, why wouldn't the forest grow? It's only neighbors are two towns, a four-story building and neverending nothing. You know what else is neverending? The production of shards. And too many of them come here, so... sure, the forest needs more space.
One would expect it to grow from it's limit, and not... the way it does. But, if it works it works. It's quite convenient that the portals functioning is not affected by these changes, but it might become inconvenient for some clients who go on quests to other areas.
