BUILD YOUR OWN WORLD Like what you see? Become the Master of your own Universe!

Yet another apocalyptic myth

Unlike popular belief, time is linear.   There are many ways to try and swim against the current: keeping pieces of the past and living it all again in our memories or by repeating the story; refusing to change or even learn; trying to guess the future by studying information from the past... It's all futile.   Just as the rivers find their way to the Great Lake, time cannot be stopped from flowing. You are supposed to move forward too; trying not to, will only cause you harm.   Time machines of any kind, are either a scam or a really dangerous thing that will rob you from your present without fulfilling the promise of giving you the past back. Freezing time sounds adorable, and powerful. But it's just a poorly designed dam, which will break sooner on later, without accomplishing anything more than making the time muddy for a while, and causing a horrible flodd in the end.   That applies to this world too.   Every day that doesn't pass, adds to the upcoming disaster. If things continue this way, using a magical company's time loop as our own version of time travel technology, time will find its way to move on, and you know what that way is? To destroy it all!   The granter's magic will be the first to go, his power being the source of the problem. But when the dam breaks, all this world of shards will be doom. We are going to turn to dust as we should, of course, but so will everything else here. "Here" won't exist.   And what will shards do then?   Accumulate and create havoc everywhere else. And we all know that the reason shards need to be keep in a separate dimension is because no inhabitated world can manage them. Those who lost the most would have more shards around them, and more rage and pesimism inside them. The most prosperous of worlds will eventually succumb to the rage of the beings created that way.   Each world has its own timing and reasons to reach and end, with no relation to the others, but the disruption of the natural process in one of them will disrupt it in all the others. Maybe damaging the natural flow of time in this world will cause the early destruction of the universe.   Or, crazy as it might sound, this was always meant to be. Maybe this world's natural way to fall is due to the time loop, and instead of causing an unnatural disaster all over the universe, it will simply start the natural process in others. Maybe the dam in time will break when all the other worlds are gone.

Variations & Mutation

Apparently some of them believe that it their responsibility to discover and use some kind of mythical magic that will allow them to break the spell and save the universe. Last time we heard about it, was from a girl falling into despair because she thought it was impossible to find that magic.   Well, that last bit is something I can agree with.

Summary

The continued existence of a company's time loop disrupting the passage of time, this world will be destroyed. With nowhere to go, the Shards will stay on their worlds, creating ghosts in every world and eventually destroying everything.

Historical Basis

Well, worlds have died or been destroyed before, that's true.   And yes, playing with the flow of time is dangerous, even for short periods and only one time. but no worlds have been destroyed by time traveling only.   Of course, there is no basis for believing that a time loop can cause trouble. Besides, the granter's spell changed where we are in time, not how it flows.   It's a good thing that this is only a myth, since we can't do anything to break the time loop anymore. The granter stopped keeping the company's time loop alive a long, long time ago, and we have never heard of any form of magic that can put our time back in movement (another good thing, because doing it would cause havoc in the history of many of the worlds we had interacted with).

Spread

Surprisingly, not many people knows about this theory. It seems like those who believe it aren't interested in sharing it with just anyone, and the others... I don't know if they are scared of angering the boss or if they just don't think it wise to spread this kind of story.

Author's Notes

The title says more about the narrator's patience than about the number or apocalyptic myths in the premises, but it is true that there is another article that mentions a differenty myth about the end of the world as they know it.
