The Wandering Tower is something of a holy grail for Shard hunters. It is not a stable shard as it moves around Yuna on some complex pattern that no one has been able to figure out. There are many myths and legends about the Tower: it was created by a sorcerer pre-Shattering as a treasure vault, it's been floating since before the Shattering, it is some kind of arcane light house, it is the store room of a god, it's really a giant mimic that has been cursed so it can't actually eat anyone.
Because that is what fuels the curiosity around the Tower. No one has figured out how to get in. There are no doors or windows to gain entry, any and all magic done to detect ways to enter have also failed. And with each failed attempt, the legend of the Tower and its riches has only grown because why would something be so secure if not to keep something of great importance safe.
