A History as Precious as Metal

Record of Battle: The Liberation of Argenthrane   For nearly three decades the city of Argenthrane was under the control of demons, the demon lords Lust and Envy having taken the mountain, shattering the mountains defenses. For three decades the good dwarves of Argenthrane toiled, slaves to their demonic masters. A generation of dwarves were born and grew into adolesence, knowing only the yolk of toil and persecution. The demons indulged in their vices at the expense of the the mountains people, and they desecrated the soul of the mountain, imbuing their infernal power into the god-stone so they could bask in its corruptive radiance. And then one morning, as if with dawn itself, celestial horns blew outside the shattered gates of Argenthrane. A host from Elysium, generaled by none other than Judica of Justice herself began laying siege to the mountain. Above the mountain like a halo, flew a legion of angels, circling, waiting for any demon who dared flee before the might of the army of light. For nearly three weeks the demons endured the siege, until the demon lord Envy was injured in the fighting. Seeing their demonic master was not as invincible as they once thought, the dwarves of Argenthrane rose up and rebeled, armed only with mining picks, blacksmith hammers, and the chains that bound them led by Gofa Chainbreaker, mother of Misiri the Missionary. From within the dwarves captured several of the outer mining villages, allowing the army of the light to gain a foothold into the mountain. And then, forced to wage battle on two fronts, the elysian forces outside, and having their supply lines of dwarven slaves turn into an insurgent force, the siege was broken. A war on two fronts was too much for the demons to handle, and they fled the mountain, but not before the injured Envy was cut down by the Archangel Judica at the foot of the god-stone. The demons death purified the godstone in the radiant light of Celestine, cleansing it of all corruption and imbuing it with a most holy aura.   And so Argenthrane was liberated. The dwarves, knowing only servitude for so long, lay down their weapons, offering their subserviance to Judica. Judica declined this offer, asking only for faith in the Heavenly Chorus as payment for their liberation. While not all of the dwarves of Argenthraneturned their backs on initially their god of the mountain, in time, with the help of Misiri, daughter of the hero of the liberation, bowed their heads and knees to the lady of light.     Record of Battle: The Defense of Dun Durak   At the outset of the extraplanar invasion of the Mortal Realm we now call the War of Ash, the dwarven kingdoms sought sanctuary in our mountain homes, where we believed the thick stone and proximity to our godstones would keep us safe, but it was not so. Contact was lost with both Mythrane and Titanathrane and the dwarven kingdoms in the south saw constant assault. Both Bronthrane and Aurethrane saw costly defeats, and their refugees fled to Dun Durak, where they believed to be the last safe place for dwarvenkind. However, that was not so. The demon lord Pride was the foe they faced, believed to be the most powerful of the demon-god's warriors, some say his avatar.. After sacking both Bronthrane and Aurethrane Pride turned his attention to Dun Durak, the last settlement in the region after the elves had been scattered earlier in the war.   A siege began of the mountain, one whose scars can still be seen today. The leaders of the dwarves saw quickly that the end of dwarvenkind was nigh, however, the unexpected happened. Deep in the mountain, cavern walls burst asunder, as a clan of Runidiri elves emerged alongside the great mole spirit, Kretek. They had asked the great spirit to take a risk and tunnel to the dwarves they knew were in peril, and they offered sanctuary for the dwarves who could not fight, in the hidden villages of the Dreamsong Woods, kept secret from the demons with illusions and enchantment. The dwarven leaders thanked the Runidiri, who once were considered enemies. Many of the dwarven people fled, including the leaders of Aurethrane and Bronthrane, leaving only a contingent of dwarven warriors behind to seal off the cavern from the demons, and wait for a time to strike.   The leader of Bronthrane was then taken to another group of Runidiri, where he met with Naya the Dream, the moth spirit. They forged a pact and Naya flew the dwarven leader to Bayguard, where the many of the Tenari had fled after the sacking of Triton. The dwarf king sought to forge a new alliance here as well, to help rescue Dun Durak, as well as to seek vengeance for the Tenari who had lost their royal family and capital. A week of debate and old grudges played out, but in the end an accord was struck, a new alliance between the Runidiri, dwarves, and Tenari was forged. The remainder of the Tenari fleet sailed into the bay while the rangers and druids of the Runidiri advanced through the forests. They met in battle with the demon host outside the hills of Dun Durak, however Pride was nowhere to be found, and the demons attempted to fall back to the mountain that they had thought they had taken. But they arrived to locked gates and a hail of ballistae bolts as the dwarves who had waited a month inside the dark caverns deep within Dur Durak burst forth and retook the mountain. The remaining demons were crushed by the elven forces against the iron dwarven gates.   After the the battle had finished, before the dust had fully cleared the Tenari admirals, the Runidiri chieftans, and the lords of Dun Durak, Aurethrane, and Bronthrane met and officiated the treaty of Dol Gorak. For this time forward these peoples would not longer work against one another, but try to achieve harmony and forge a world where the seas, hills, and forests were ruled in unity.   Record of Battle: Mirromere   The battle of Mirromere took place in 26 AS on the shores of Lake Mirromere at Argenthrane. The demon lords known as Lust and Malice attempted to retake Argenthrane with a host of rogue demons they gathered and bound to their will. They marched swiftly to Argenthrane, razing Balashova (the second time Lust had done so) on their warpath with much of their military.   This meant that Argenthrane had no allies to stand along, and with defenses to the mountain city not yet fulled repaired after the years of demonic occupation during the war. Many of the dwarves of Argenthrane had lived through the ordeal of a demonic occupation, and feared that the another occupation would be the end of Argenthrane. Queen Gofa Chainbreaker, in her wisdom decided to bring what little of Argenthrane's army to field. The army was bolstered by what some may call it militia, but was infact hundreds of our dwarven breathren, not warriors by trade, but who cared so much for their home they were willing to risk their lives to defend it. Not unlike the rebellion that Gofa had lead, what seemed like a lifetime ago, the dwarves of Argenthrane marched against demons, armed with mining pick, blacksmith hammer, or in the case of Gofa herself, a broken chain wrapped around each wrist.   And so it was that day on the battle of Mirromere that the forces of the dwarves smashed the demonic army. Like a hammer to anvil the dwarves fell upon the demons, and with their backs to the lake had no where to retreat. The infernal army was taken by surprise, expecting a siege, when the legions of dwarves burst from the mountain and met them on the shores of Mirromere. The lake ran red and black with the blood of dwarven patriot and demonic invader alike, many fell. The demon Malice slew hundreds before losing his arm, then fleeing the battle. His departure shifted the favor of battle, as many of his flank broke and fled without his influence to keep them there. Nearby, in the shallows of the lake Queen Gofa faced off against the demon lord Lust, landing a powerful blow that marred her face. This enraged Lust, who in turn incinerated the stalwart dwarf, leaving only red hot chains roiling in the water where she stood. The queen's sacrifice only emboldened the dwarves, and led by her daughter Misiri, they struck down Lust, sending the remaining demonic forces scattering to the edges of Imperia.
