Alchemical Reagents and their Uses {Deprecated}
[This information is about a previous system and is no longer relevant. I'm keeping it up for posterity, and I intend to write something similar for the new system. --Pi]
Through Harvesting and Herbalism, there are lots of alchemical reagents you can acquire. Each reagent has some properties that are useful to know when brewing potions, and also each reagent has a unique use on its own, typically for empowering a spell. Here are my gathered notes on reagents and how they can be used.
Harvesting

Amorphous Heart | All | When casting a transmutation spell with this component, you may expend a spell slot one level lower than the level you cast it at. |
Ancient Hide | Primal | When you cast Mage Armor using this component, the targets base AC becomes 19 + its DEX modifier. When the target is targeted by the magic missile spell, line spell, or spell that requires a ranged ttack, roll a d6. On 1-3, the target is affected by the spell as normal. On a 4-5, the spell has no effect on the target. On a 6, the spell is reflected back at the caster. |
Brimstone Hooves | Primal, Shadow | When you cast Etherealness with this component, you may target up to three additional creatures. |
Brined Lung | Primal, Shadow | When you cast Water Breathing using this component, the spell lasts until it is dispelled. |
Enchanted Bark | Restorative | When casting a spell that grants a bonus to AC with this component, the target also gains resistance to bludgeoning and piercing damage for the duration of the spell. |
Enchanted Feather | Elemental | When you cast feather fall using this component, creatures targeted by the spell fall at a rate of 80 feet per round. When you cast fly using this component, a target’s flying speed increases to 80 feet. |
Fetid Pouch | Death | When you cast Poison Spray using this component and the target fails the spell's saving throw, it is poisoned until the start of your next turn. While poisoned in this way, the target can take either an action or a bonus action on its turn, not both, and can't take reactions. |
Fiend Blood | Death, Elemental | When you cast heroes’ feast with the blood of a fiend other than a Lore Devil or a Rakshasa, a creature that partakes in the feast gains advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects for the duration. |
Fiendish Eye | Death, Elemental | When you cast Darkvision with this component, the target can see through magical darkness. |
Fungal Spore | Death, Primal | When casting chill touch with this component you can target two creatures within 10 feet of one another. |
Heavenly Feather | Arcane, Primal | When you cast Polymorph using this component, the target retains its mental ability scores and ability to speak. It can perform the somatic and verbal components of a spell while in its new form, but it can't provide material components. |
Hellish Beak | Death, Elemental | When you cast alter self using this component, you can give yourself wings, granting you a flying speed equal to your move speed for 1 minute. |
Infernal Horn Fragment | Death, Elemental | When you cast darkness or detect magic using this component, you don’t expend a spell slot. When you cast confusion, dispel magic, fly, or power word stun using this component, you can use a spell slot that is one level lower than required. |

Lingering Death | Death, Shadow | When you cast a necromancy spell that deals damage with this component the spell deals an additional 2d6 necrotic damage per spell level to the target. |
Magic Infused Sap | Primal, Restorative | When you cast the grease spell using this components, creatures in the area when the spell is cast are immobilized for a turn. |
Primal Core | Elemental, Primal | When casting a damaging spell while using this component, you can change the damage type to match the elemental core type, or increase the damage of the spell by 1d6 per spell level if the spell's damage share a type with the primal core. |
Regenerative Blood | Restorative | When casting a spell that restores hit points with this component, the target regains an additional 1d4 hit points per level of the spell at the start of each of their turns for 3 turns, or until the target drops to 0 hit points. |
Rusty Proboscis | Primal | When you cast a spell using this component that deals acid damage, any creature that took full damage from the spell gets -2 to its AC. |
Shadow Essence | Death, Shadow | When you cast pass without trace using this component effected creatures can take the Hide action as a bonus action. |
Unicorn Horn | Arcane, Restorative | When you cast shield using this component, you have a +7 bonus to AC until the start of your next turn. |
Varl Horn | Arcane, Primal | When casting Bigby's Hand with this component, summon instead a spectral varl with the same stats but adds 1d4 to all attacks, checks, and saving throws. |
Warpblood | Arcane | When you cast blink using this component, you can reroll the d20 at the end of each of your turns to determine if you remain on the Material Plane. If you do reroll, you must use the second result. |
Whomping Willow Seed | Death, Primal | When you cast the magic missile spell using this component, summon an extra dart. |
Wretched Vocal Chords | Primal | When you cast a spell using this component that forces one or more creatures to make a saving throw or become charmed, a target has disadvantage on the saving throw to resist the spell’s effects. |
