Whelker's Point is a large fishing village and trade port on the north side of Kingsbay. It gets its named from the vast mudflats where whelks are harvested from.
Notable Inhabitants
Oyster Isle
Oyster Isle is a tiny, forified island just off the coast of Whelker's Point. It is connected to the main part of town by the Leviathanbone Bridge. The isle houses Rockshell Keep, an ancient, decrepid, forification that serves as the seat of governance in Whelker's Point, as well as the Redstone Lighthouse and the Oldstone Chapel. The lighthouse is an old red brick structure that keeps a constant bonfire from dusk to dawn. It helps ward away ships from the area as the mudflats can extend a great distance at low tide, and many boats tend to get beached in the mud or wreck on shallow bits of rock. The Oldstone Chapel once housed some unknown faith, but now Celestine sermons can be heard on holy days, although usually to a small audience.
Dockside
Dockside is where most boat maintanence takes place. Carpenters work tirelessly to produce wooden boat parts that are sent to shipwrights all over the region.
Mariner's Guild
While the aging guild members wouldn't admit it, the Marniner's Guild is more or less defunct now. Once a center for ships captains to come and read maps of the seas or to recruit crew, the guild hall now is mainly used as a tavern for salty old seadogs.
Ivory Door
A cardhouse operated by the
Telamon Crime Family. This is a smaller, low stakes cardhouse, which is perfect for the common folk of Whelker's Point. It was rumored recently that a skilled gambler knocked over the cardhouse and landed themselves on the Telamon's hit list.
Mudhill Farm
Mudhill farm is one of the larger employers in Whelker's Point not related to the seaside. Their cabbage grows exceptionally fast in the soil here, which is a good thing, as not much else does. This cabbage is the key ingredient in Whelker's Chowder, a dish whose main ingredients are cabbage and clams.
The Flats
The flats are a vast range of mudflats that range for at least a mile to the north and south of Whelker's Point. They are exceptionally hard to travel, but at low tide there are an abundence of shellfish to gather, which leads it to be the most common proffession in the town. The Mariner's Guild used to provide a mage skilled in cold magic to help freeze the shellfish, allowing them to be presevered and transported around the world, but since the towns decline, the mages have moved on, and now the shellfish rarely make it out of Malaster.
Leviathanbone Bridge
The Levieathanbone Bridge is one of the most interesting features of the town. The ancient stone bridge that connects Oyster Isle to the mainland is made from stone that bears the fossils of some ancient sea serpent, equally large, if not larger than the largest of whales.
