Crystals in the Shifting Shadow's world haven't always been as they are. But soon after the Unraveling unusual crystals have started to grow. They are predominately found growing along what are known as Lei lines and surrounding the areas that had been affected by the Unraveling. These crystals have strange properties and are often used to help power devices and vehicles. These power sources are known to be what has allowed the world to regain some semblance of order and society to recover. As such people made Crystal farms to culture and protect the crystals from over use or exploitation.
It is suspected by scholars that what caused the Unraveling, is also what provides the world with crystals and many study them to better understand what caused the Unraveling, and to find other uses for them.
Little known is the affect that Skinwalkers and crystals have on each other. As both being products of the Unraveling they are connected. Skinwalkers, if not careful, can cause crystals to react to them, usually by creating a larger output of energy. Though some Skinwalkers can control this phenomenon and prevent crystals from reacting to them or even produce more energy and causing the crystal to crack or explode. This however takes a lot of training on the Skinwalkers part, and most just learn how to hide their own energy to keep crystals from reacting to them.
A simple casing, that most devices use to hold the crystal can block the connection between Skinwalkers and Crystals. So no need to worry about lights flaring or bursting just because a Skinwalker passes by or gets angry.

Significance

Used to power items and homes and the daily lives of people, though most don't handle them personally and professionals are called upon to install and maintain them.

Rarity

Fairly common, and found in many places. However, that is the common verity used to power day to day items. There are rare kinds that have other properties, like producing heat, cold, etc... that are hard to find and to cultivate. These are highly sought after and protected by those who find them. These kinds are found in extreme places and harsh climes. When found they demand a high price.
