Church of Set

Followers of Set, The Cloaked Serpent.    Currently, this religion is largely abandoned and unknown, thus not many follow it. Those followers that may exist are inherently secretive.

Assets

Many temples dedicated to set were lost to time. These temples were usually subterranean and always hidden.

Tenets of Faith

  • Keep your acts obfuscated and secret. The night is your greatest ally.
  • Strike quickly and without reason. Blind the target with their own confusion.
  • Kill slowly. Agonizingly. Or worse, make them enjoy it.

Worship

Test of Venom: This ceremony was performed by any follower of Set wishing to become a member of the clergy, and involved walking among poisonous vipers or scorpions.   Reconsecration The Reconsecration was a ceremony that perverted an existing tomb or crypt, transforming it into a shrine dedicated to the Defiler of the Dead.   Typical worshippers include Assassins, Blackguards, Brigands, Criminals, Rogues, Thieves, Tomb Robbers, Wizards

Priesthood

Clergy: The clergy of Set was composed of evil beings from any ethnicity. These individuals spend much of their time overseeing the actions of criminals and grave robbers, as well as planning the overthrow of existing authority.   Clerics and other clergy in service to Set wore linen skirts, sandals, and collar. These individuals don headdresses over shaved heads. When preparing for battle they dressed appropriately for the situation, but preferred equipment that featured a prominent snake motif. Clerics of Set prayed for spells at night.   Historically, Zehiric/Setian clerics were called Venomers and drew many worshipers from the ranks of the yuan-ti. High-ranking clerics were referred to as "Low Priests". In a society of snake men, being low was considered a positive attribute. The unholy gesture of Zehir/Set was the sign of fangs.

Political Influence & Intrigue

The clergy of Set sponsored numerous bands of thieves and other criminals.
