Hextor

The Warbringer

Power is the only thing that matters in a world whose laws are mere suggestions.
Hextor is a firm believer in the power of power. A God-General who once operated side-by-side with his brother Heironeous to defend Agnesia's Divine Realm, he now exists as a perversion of his previously noble self. Since an event forgotten by time, Hextor now fights an eternal war with his brother with the spirits of his followers. Despite the cruel nature of this indefinite conflict, both Heironeous' and Hextor's followers find meaning and salvation in their eternal war, and some even consider it to be an eternal paradise for their devotion.   Hextor and his brother are both Gods of war, but they vary in terms of morality: Hextor believes in power by force and through any means necessary, and Heironeous believes in power through diplomacy and in valiant action. When and why the brothers split has long since been forgotten, but the impact of their war echoes well into Agnesia itself in the form of fierce thunder and ferocious lightning storms.

Holy Books & Codes

  • The Book of Hextor: This is the primary book of Hextor's church, telling of Hextor's youth and documents his descent into Evil for boons that would give him an edge against his brother Heironeous. The book is very old, commonly believed to be a biography of sorts by the god himself.
  • The Celestial Grindwheel: This is a very heretical set of scrolls written by a Hextorian monk a century ago, theorizing that Heironeous and Hextor are actually two halves of the same being. The scrolls suggest that the battle between the two sides helps balance out the good and evil in the multiverse, thereby preventing the destruction of everything.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Hextor's Divine symbol is a triangle with six lines, two protruding from a given edge. This represents Hextor's preferred form of "a six-armed humanoid bearing two large tusks jutting from its lower jaw wearing armor, clad with skulls. He wields a weapon in each hand: a spiked flail, a battle axe, a battle pick, a longsword, a mace, and a falchion."   Only two of his signature weapons have ever been (or claimed to have been) found in the land of Agnesia.   Sord: A jade flail with an abnormally heavy spiked head, which can only be properly used by strong warriors. (+2 impact, -2 if strength requirement of 13 is not met)   Flale: A steel longsword with a spiked detachable pommel, which can be separated and used as a dagger. The two pieces cannot be held by two different fighters, else they grow incredibly brittle and become prone to shattering.

Tenets of Faith

The church of Hextor teaches that the world is a harsh, unforgiving place. The strong rule the weak, and power is the only reward worth having. Cruelty and mercilessness are necessary tools. Order must be forged from Chaos and law from anarchy, but order is meaningless without the will to enforce it. Tyrants are to be obeyed, and dissenters are to be oppressed or killed. Slaves must obey their masters.

Holidays

  • Blooding. During Caniculia, Hextorians exhibit their strength, fitness, and martial prowess, sacrificing the lives of war prisoners to feed their god. Others cut themselves, offering their own blood to Hextor.
  • Discords might. Celebrated on the 25th of Velox, commemorates the struggle between the Medegian Bladelands and the followers of Heironeous. The church of Hextor teaches that this was a glorious victory by pushing across a river. Worshipers of Heironeous, however, celebrate a parallel holiday of Valormight on the same day, where they celebrate the fact that the Hextorians were unable to push past that river as a great victory for the forces of Good.
