Day of the Dead

On the second day of the eleventh month, the gates between the world of the living and the world of the dead are open.   It is the tradition on this day to remember and celebrate the past deeds of our fallen family and friends. Shrines can be found in every home dedicated to loved ones, some can be found in town squares celebrating the lives of fallen heroes, and some on the streets mourning a lost pet. It is said that on the evening of this holiday the spirits of those who are loved can momentarily visit the land of the living given that a shrine is erected in their honour and someone who loved them is there to call their name. This holiday is not without concern, however, for not only can the good spirits of those fallen crossover, but so can malevolent spirits of dark intentions. Particularly angry spirits, especially those who have unfinished business from their lifetime, have been known to break through the barrier and enter our plane on this night for it is when the barriers are weakest. Clerics and necromancers use this time to their advantage as the process of raising the dead is less problematic and easier on this night.   The Death Day Parade begins at dusk and continues on to sunrise, people will march in bands decorated in an assortment of colours, flowers are a very common adornment, it is not uncommon for some to paint their faces to appear inhuman. Candles and incense litter the streets and homes and flower petals make paths for the dead to follow. Music of all varieties can be heard as each ethnicity celebrates this holiday in their own way.
