Devil of the Oceans

Although it is common knowledge today that it's a bad idea to sail far out on the sea it wasn't always like this. Before Devil of the Oceans was written everyone thought the Sailor's Nightmare was only a rumor. After the book was published the existence of this monster became common knowledge, although facts about it is scarce even now.

Purpose

Devil of the Oceans was written to be a source of information about a creature that most people thought was a myth. The text is based on survivor observations and discussions about some theories about the monster.

Historical Details

Background

This book was written in a time where more and more people were travelling on the oceans. It explains everything that is known about the monster called Sailor's Nightmare, which attacks and crushes every ship that sails too far out from dry land. Not everyone seemed to know anything about this creature, and several ships were lost every year due to people not knowing about the monster.

Legacy

After this book was published, most seafaring ships were aware of the danger that was lurking in the deep, dark ocean. There were less ships that traveled far enough out to sea to be at risk from the Sailor's Nightmare. Some ships were lost to the monster, of course, but the danger of traveling out on the open seas begun to become common knowledge, and not only rumors in the dark corners of taverns.
