Elder-blooded
There's some things you'll need to know about being a Child of an Elder. First of all, you'll stop aging around the age of forty. This is due to the second thing you'll need to know, which is a much longer lifetime than you expected to live. In my experience, this is what is the hardest to come to terms with for you mortals, and I understand - outliving your loved ones isn't exactly great.
Sometimes you meet an individual who hasn't seemed to age for decades, still looking just the same as they did when you first met them. Most likely this is just a trick of your memory, telling you that they've always looked like this. Yet, in some rare cases there might be a different reason. They might have actually stopped aging. There are several reasons in the world to not age, and all of them are rare. One of them is by having the blood of the Elders.
These are the Elder-blooded, descendants of one of the five Elders who inhabit Shireon.
A Long Life
The only certain perk of being Elder-blooded is a prolonged life. The aging process is halted around the age of forty, until it begins again at its normal speed when their new lifetime nears its end. When they notice they've started aging again know they have about half a century left of their lives.
This might be unnerving for someone who have lived for almost a millennium already, and some go through a small personal crisis when they realize their time is coming to an end. Others might welcome the end, since they've lost so many friends and family through the years, and they're simply worn out by life.
Strength of the Blood
How many generations the Elder-blooded is from the Elder they're descendants of determine how long they will live, and the likelihood of having other genetic perks. In Humans, half-bloods might live until they're almost or just a thousand years old, quarter-bloods until they're about four or five hundred, half-quarter-blooded until they're about a hundred and fifty, and anyone further out will barely notice any difference in their lifespan.
There haven't been any known cases of non-Human Elder-blooded. There have been long philosophical discussions about how being Elder-blooded would affect the lifespan of an Enari Elf, for example, and the theories are divided. If years are added, they would live to about two thousand years of age. If the lifespan is multiplied, however, an Enari Elf Half-blood Elder-blooded could risk living for ten thousand years.
The Elders and their Offspring
KalsadCommonly Known Elder-blooded
The brothers Bagdar and Tosmond Laubrok are both known to be half-bloods, as it's public knowledge that they're sons of Kalsad.
Suspected Elder-blooded
Everything stated here is based on rumors, and should be taken with a grain of salt. Still, there might be some truth in it.
Great article! I liked the fact that you delved into the psychological aspects of being elder blooded and have many details about the half bloods and quarter bloods as well as the plain and easy to understand information. I had a question and that was what would happen if one performed a blood transfusion between an elder blooded and an ordinary human, would the ordinary human become an elder blooded? I also liked the use of links here and this all makes for an interesting and great article to read and that has earned my like. Keep up the great work!
