Kael Thalori Timber
History & Usage
History
There has been small scale logging in the Kuprian part of the Kael Thalori since the first time people arrived in the area. However, it wasn't until the 1800s the rest of Shireon fell in love with the Kael Thalori timber. The demand reached a new high when the Kuprian-Asharian war ended, as Asharia was able to import the timber again.
Hazards
Cutting down trees is not a job without danger. Trees are large, and they might fall in a surprising direction and land on someone. Several woodcutters have died under falling trees during the handful of centuries since the logging started in this area.
It's not only falling trees that is a hazard, however. Woodcutters are using several tools that can do a lot of damage.
Environmental Impact
The Kuprians are cutting down too many trees. There are areas that are completely bare now.
Whether too many trees are cut down every year depends on who you ask. Most people on the Enari side will say there's way too many. Most people on the Kuprian side, however, will point out how many million trees there are in the Kael Thalori, a few hundred cut trees a year won't really make that much of a difference, right?
The Enari are more concerned about the large areas of woodland that are now bare, only with a few saplings working hard to reclaim the area. Ancient trees that have lived there for hundreds of years are reduced to mere planks, and it will take another period of hundreds of years to regrow the lost forest again.
...Too many trees?
Do the enari know how many trees this forest has? Sure, we cut trees in a small area since we don't own the whole forest, but surely the rest of the forest will survive without the low percentage we harvest every year.
