Vision Snail Venom
Properties
Origin & Source
Vision snail venom comes from the vision snails living in Vutara Bay. The sirens keep these snails to farm their venom to use it in some of their rituals.
History & Usage
Cultural Significance and Usage
In some of the siren spiritual rituals, especially those from older spiritual branches, the vision snail venom is used to get divine visions. The ritual calls for extreme focus in dosing the venom correctly to get a maximum of a day's worth of hallucinations, preferrably only a few hours. Then, when consumed, the one who is doing the ritual just spend the next unknown amount of time seeing things that aren't there. After the hallucinations are done, the participant spends a while getting used to the real world. Then it's time to interpret the things seen during the hallucinations.
There are guidelines about a lot of the things that can appear during the hallucinations and how they should be interpreted, but it's mostly up to the participant how to interpret them.
Hazards
The vision snail venom is a venom, after all, and could kill you if you're not careful about the dosage. Small doses give hours of hallucinations, maybe even a whole day. The more venom is consumed the longer these hallucinations will last, up to almost a week. At one point the consumer dies if the amount of venom gets too large. However, even with amounts below the lethal dose the consumer might die. The body might get so overloaded by several days worth of horrific visions that it might just collapse from exhaustion and strain.
There is no cure to an overdose of vision snail venom.
