Session 39.5: A walk to remember

Deciding to let Val and Jenny rest, the four left the Spire to check some things off their lists. With her mum still recuperating, April was sure she could get a lot done today. On the way, April confessed feeling quite odd now that her mum had been saved. While her mum and dad were safe, life as she'd known it had been turned upside down. All these new places, new rules and titles and the place she once knew had gone to hell. At least her mum was safe...though she needed some C12H22O11 to fatten her up again.   Nesza frowned a this. He was sure April was quieter than normal and that this wasn't the only reason. It took her a while, but she admitted to feeling weak. Ever since the guy she killed in Windshire, the possibility of hurting people whether through words or a potion haunted her. But how was she supposed to protect her mum like that? Anyway, this was about a nice outing. She waved it aside.   It was revealed she wanted to go back to Fairhaven and visit her grandparents. She promised to pop in after her mum was saved. She was also thinking about creating her very own legacy, which might involve starting a shop/bar and learning black smithing so she could broaden her crafting capacities.   Nesza wondered why April never went to a magic school. It was revealed that there were no schools in Windshire, let alone a magic one. They learned from their parents how to evolve the wine empire. Fortunately for April, her parents had a lot to teach her. She didn't have much of a knack for magic though. Crafting things that allowed for that, however, was another story. April quizzed Griff about his relation to the royal family, finding that the Queen's consort was a Vadalis (making Griff literally related albeit far removed). His family was a big and cozy one which bred horses. They almost all served in the cavalry on the Tranian border. While April was given the choice to farm, Griff wasn't. As soon as Godrick came into his life he was sent to the Sky Kings. It made him reminisce about Cody and Grace, where he trained them after 15 years under Jossac. Cody, a stable boy and Vadalis bastard, as gifted the mark and rook over Ash when her rider died. Grace was the only one that could keep up. It makes him reveal what happens to most griffons when their riders die – they go crazy. Talk of war aside, Griff mentioned wanting to stay and help Nesza with his Quori. Also, he wanted to stick around Tristan and help Silmer find out more about Chelon.   When his tattoo, newly identified by Val, was brought into the conversation, Griff explained he wanted to visit the Spire of Life. With so many druids in that area, chances were someone could help him understand better. After all, druids tended to pass historical events and knowledge on through word of mouth. It was a situation Nesza was keen to investigate. He wanted his own tattoo looked at. He even wondered if he would be able to learn more from them. Like being able to talk to the plants.   He also explained that with the Qori gone, he felt great. The feeling of dread and impending doom he'd been feeling wasn't there anymore. He was more worried about how it would start to feel when the Qori came back. As for leads on going back to Dal Qor, Nesza kept going back to what Corvus said. That he was from mabar. It was something he needed to check up on. Either way, he wanted to go back. Also to see Emmy again. He didn't have their backs when he should have and he never apologized for that. Maybe this time he could. For the time being, he was going to dedicate his time to renovating Hawk's house and finding out more about the crystals. He could understand why his dad would have wanted to keep the crystal. He hadn't realized it could kill the Commodore. Maybe there were more out there that could be used.   Silmer believes getting out and adventuring might be good for them so he'd love to help. He's been feeling too claustrophobic in the city, so he plans to isolate and meditate. Dal Qor, while it didn't impact him as much, showed him far more than expected. He's happy he didn't see more. He thinks everyone needs to keep Tristan distracted and happy next time. Speaking of Dal Qor, why did Juliona's book not mention tortles could be beacons? There's a lot about tortles he still doesn't know about, especially after having talked with Hawk. Maybe they could track down some known pirate routes, see if they could find any other Tortle eggs or something similar? Find something out about his lineage. Decidedly, come what may, Silmer wants to become a captain of a ship. A water ship, not like the ones Mia wants to captain. Until then, speaking to Kleris about Chenlon would have to do.
