Solaris

A week long mid-spring celebration. The exact origin is unknown but it seems to symbolize the victory of light over darkness. It is a holiday observed by The Silver Flame but the celebration is open for all to join.   The colours are white linen drapery with blue flowers (either embroided or fresh). And silver and blue lanterns light the evening events.   During the war, soldiers got shore leave to be able to celebrate the holiday with their families. To this day, people (except tavern owners and buskers) often opt to stop working for a week in order to celebrate with family and friends.

Locations of note

  • Flamekeep (largest)
  • Passage (most beautifully decorated)

Traditions and events

  Parade
The Parade is an event that takes places on the first day.
During the war, the parade consisted of soldiers. All wore a small blue flower on their cloaks
After the war, the consisted of children, representing peace.
In all cases, in recent memory the parade been lead by a little girl (ages 6-8) dressed in fake armour to represent Tira Miron. She leads parade, singing The Voice
All who participate in the parade (other than the musicians and "Tira Miron") carry silver lanterns.

A play or reading on the "Lighting of the Torch"
Least popular part of the celebration.

Food
Food is a very important part of Solaris as it is used to symbolically represent sacrifice.
Throughout the the week, at night there is an ongoing Food Festival. On the first day, however, patrons will pay double for their meals, allowing the vendors to give away meals to those who cannot afford any food at all. As a result, the first day is also the busiest at the Food Festival. People are eager to support others during this time.
At home, "sacrifices" are represented by sharing food from your own table to the neighborhood. Each day, people can open their homes to each other, offering food and merriment.

Festival games
HUGE hide and go seek league (for the smaller participants of the celebration.... and some older....)
Many archery-based games (at the entrance of the games section, small bows and "safe" arrows are available)
"Lift the Kloinjer" game
"Light the Torch" race

Music
Every night, the festival closes with a huge outdoor dance event. Traditional music and more popular music are interwoven. The party can go on until the early hours of the morning
