Shreaf Tree
This tree's wood has the rare property of absorbing/dampening magic used in its presence. It's used to help treat Magic Withdrawal, as well as to build magically resistant buildings, dungeons, or houses in highly magical areas.
Basic Information
Anatomy
It's a tree, deciduous, large leafs that make a vaguely computer mouse shape, long and narrow, and with bark that's smooth.
Genetics and Reproduction
Ask the Lorax, he speaks for the trees (aka like most trees irl).
Growth Rate & Stages
The Shreaf Tree can live a very long time, the oldest recorded living one is thought to be over 2,000 years old.
Ecology and Habitats
Forests, that get some rain throughout the year, in places just colder than the tropics, so the subtropics, probably)
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Some tree farms will cut down the trees, cycling a few rows every year to constantly have large planks. Other farmers prefer to strip off bark and wood as needed, which can't be used for building a house, but can still be used to line a room or surround someone when necessary.
Another great use of the plant is for prisons, because people could magically weaken stone, or heat most wood, so they require attentive guards normally, but with the woods magical absorption, it is much harder to magically burn. For house building, while expensive, it is used by rich families in highly magical areas. Less rich families will still mix some into the insulation of their house to somewhat reduce the magic they feel inside.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
magical absorption and resistance
Lifespan
A ton of years
Conservation Status
Much of the world has local farms of the Shreaf Tree because of its medical uses. In more naturally magic regions there may actually be several of them, and generally all nations have access to the tree. In times of war it is almost unheard of for the tree to be destroyed, if it is being farmed and even in battles they are given a wide breadth.
