The Grand Hall of the Defenders
The Grand Hall of the Defenders is the Defenders of the Library's main headquarters in the capitol of the Gatherers of the World. The Grand Hall is situated along the Sarenkey River featuring a moat, and it's own walls.
Purpose / Function
The Grand Hall is made to house the resident Defenders of the Library, provide space and administration to help with the logistics of the library, as well as plan out any military actions the defenders intend to take in the future. Additionally, it is where new recruits come and are trained.
Alterations
The original walls surrounding the grand hall on it's small island were made of wood. Most of the island was a field used for training with a few permanent structures. Administration was largely handled by the Gatherers of the World until ____. At that point the Defenders were reorganized, and the island was choosen to be renovated into a better headquarters for the Defenders.
Architecture
The original walls were a wooden palisade with a tower near the bridge onto the island, and one along the river at the edges of the island farthest upstream and farthest downstream. Interior buildings were also wooden and mostly housed equipment, as well as a mess hall, and a small house for the captains in charge of training.
With the big remodel, the wooden palisade was entirely torn down and replaced with a permanent 18 foot stone wall cut from the surrounding hills to make room for the expanding city, and quarries for the extra stone needed. The wood was built into a retaining wall to stop the river from eroding the island and was later replaced with stone.
