Ritual: Etherweave Infusion

The Etherweave Infusion is an ambitious and perilous ritual attempted by skilled mages on Sitagus. By tapping into the volatile magical energies released by Signus during its bursts, these mages strive to infuse objects with potent and unique enchantments. It is a rare and sought-after art, as the infused items can exhibit extraordinary magical properties, coveted by adventurers, scholars, and rulers alike.   Challenges and Limitations:
  • Unpredictable Energy Emanation: The timing of the magical energy bursts from Signus cannot be accurately predicted. This uncertainty makes it challenging for mages to prepare for the ritual, and they must be vigilant and ready to seize the opportunity when the magic surges.
  • Intense Concentration Required: The ritual demands exceptional focus and concentration. The mages must synchronize their magical energies with those of Signus during the burst, creating a delicate balance between the external celestial energy and their own inner power.
  • Rare and Finite Resource: The magical energy released by Signus is finite, and the bursts are infrequent. Mages must be judicious in their use of this resource, as the moon needs time to replenish its magical energies between bursts.
  • Volatile Magic: The magical energies emanating from Signus are inherently unstable. Containing and harnessing this raw power is a perilous endeavour. Even experienced mages may struggle to control the chaotic energies, risking catastrophic consequences if the process goes awry.

Effect

Despite the dangers, ambitious mages are drawn to the art of Etherweave Infusion due to the allure of unparalleled magical prowess. Legends speak of extraordinary artifacts crafted through successful rituals, capable of shaping the course of history or granting their wielders god-like powers. However, cautionary tales of those who dared to fail to serve as grim reminders of the risks involved.

Side/Secondary Effects

Consequences of Failure:
  • Explosive Catastrophe: If the ritual goes awry, the condensed magical energies can explode violently, wreaking havoc in the surrounding area. Uncontrolled magical surges may harm or disintegrate the mage attempting the ritual and anything or anyone nearby.
  • Permanent Magical Corruption: Failed infusions can lead to permanent magical corruption within the enchanted item. Instead of bestowing desired abilities, the item may become cursed or uncontrollable, causing unpredictable and dangerous effects for its user.
  • Fusion with the Ethereal Plane: In extreme cases, a failure may open an unstable rift to the ethereal plane. This rift could act as a conduit, allowing ethereal creatures or energies to leak into Sitagus, bringing unforeseen and potentially catastrophic consequences to the world.

Manifestation

During the Ritual of Etherweave Infusion, the ambient magical energies in the area appear to shimmer and vibrate with an otherworldly glow. A subtle hum fills the air as if the very fabric of reality responds to the moon's energy. Bystanders might feel a faint tug or pull as the ethereal plane briefly brushes against the material world.

Source

The source of the magic is deeply intertwined with Signus, the Pearlescent Moon. The moon is imbued with raw and untamed magical power and the bursts of magical energy it periodically gives off are, in essence, fragments of the moon's dormant power seeping into the material world. This power is channelled into the ritual for it to be performed.
Material Components
Etherial Crystals: Rare and translucent crystals found only in certain locations across Sitagus, said to hold a connection to the ethereal plane. They act as conduits, channelling the magical energies from Signus into the enchantment process.   Sitagian Moonflower: A bioluminescent flower that blooms only under the light of Signus. Its petals hold the essence of the moon's magic, providing a vital connection to the moon's power during the ritual.   Starlit Ink: A specially prepared ink crafted from pulverized stardust and lunar essence. It serves as the medium for inscribing runes and sigils, binding the moon's energy to the object to be enchanted.   Silver Chains: Intricate chains made of pure silver, precisely measured and linked together, representing the harmony between the moon's ethereal nature and the material world.   Astral Glass Vial: A vial made from a rare crystalline substance that can capture and store the volatile magical energy. It acts as a containment vessel during the ritual.
Gestures & Ritual
Process and Preparation:
  1. Stellar Alignment: The ritual can only be attempted during a celestial alignment when the moon's magical energies are at their peak. The mage must carefully chart the positions of celestial bodies in advance.
  2. Harvesting Moonflower: The Sitagian Moonflower is carefully harvested by moonlight with precision to ensure its potency. Its petals are collected and stored in a sealed container, preserving their luminous glow.
  3. Inscribing Runes: The mage must painstakingly inscribe intricate runes and enchantment sigils on the object to be enchanted, using the starlit ink and a steady hand. Each symbol represents a different aspect of the desired enchantment.
  4. Channelling the Moon's Energy: The mage positions the ethereal crystals and astral glass vials in a precise configuration around the object, creating a circuit that captures and channels the moon's energy.
  5. Moonflower Offering: The Signian Moonflower is placed at the center of the ritual, serving as an offering to the moon and a symbolic link between the material world and the ethereal plane.
  6. Concentration and Channeling: During the ritual, the mage must maintain intense focus, attuning their mind and magic to the cycles of Signus and the alignment of celestial energies.

Applied Restriction
  1. Single Attempt: Once the ritual begins, it must be completed without interruption. Pausing or abandoning the ritual could lead to catastrophic consequences.
  2. Physical and Mental Strain: The ritual demands immense concentration and magical energy from the caster, often pushing them to their limits and testing their mental fortitude.
  3. Limited Attempts: Due to the rarity of the required materials and the unpredictable timing of Signus's magical bursts, mages can attempt the ritual only a handful of times in their lifetime.
