Six-Limbed Beings

Dragons live here. Human-like in their ecological niche, they roost in small, segregated cities.   Their wings detach from their bodies and fly off at birth. In a coming-of-age journey most stories set here are focused on, young wingless must quest to find and reclaim their appendages.   Dragons were not always the dominant species on this planet, however. Long ago, something much larger and more powerful than them swarmed the world and created great monuments and many magical artifacts. What were these creatures? What happened to them? And, a question perhaps most gripping for the characters alive today, what did they do to the dragons of old?   Inspired by Wings of Fire, Danny Dragonbreath, and Rain World, this world is a combination of my childhood fantasy and my modern understanding of social sciences, biology, and writing.
