Nerre Worshipers

The only belief that is undoubtedly true, are the worshipers of Nerre. The Nerre are godlike beings which can be found in the world. There are many who worship these beings, and they are indeed granted powers. However, most of the Nerre are viewed as evil beings. The Church teaches the Nerre are creations of evil sent to torment and tempt the good. These Nerre can take physical forms but rarely do. When they do take form, they also rarely show themselves. The Nerre live beneath the reflective sky and fly out of it when coming into this world.   The worshipers of the Nerre perform their rituals and prayers in secret. They are hunted down the same as witches and Puppeteers. They possess no mutations like a witch, except for worshipers of Geldah, and do not leave a trail of dead as puppeteers do. This makes them very difficult to find or track down. Temples or shrines to the Nerre are temporary and can be easily built anywhere. Often in woods during the night. Occultists can leave minor charms around where they perform rituals, giving non-occultists a feeling of unease. There are eight Nerre in total. Each completely different from the last. There were nine in the beginning, but Gluarga was slain by the three siblings. He sought to destroy the others, and in turn, was slain. With his death, the world shattered and changed. The vast landscape was transformed into the reflective sky, and only a few survived. The Nerre left alive are Kinath, Istran, and Kargran, who are known as the siblings. The siblings are the children of Thiothi and Geldah, who are the most powerful. Their father is Huxarc and his brother, Gugge. The final Nerre, Ungollu, is not related to the others.

Kinath

Kinath is the youngest of the Nerre and the closest to being sane. He takes the form of a giant owl with a camel-like head and neck, and a crane’s beak, or a thin elderly man when walking among mortals. Kinath’s ambition is to learn everything that is possible to learn. He believes that when he learns the last puzzle pieces of the universe, then he will gain command as a true god. His followers are usually educated. Doctors, engineers, scholars, and librarians are popular people to fall into his worship. Kinath offers knowledge in exchange for knowledge. He accepts sacrifices of memory and knowledge. Those who seek too much from him are often found with all of their memories taken, including knowledge of Kinath.

The Magus

A worshiper of Kinath that has been given his gift is called a Magus. The abilities granted by Kinath give the Magus the ability to learn much information quickly. Because of this, Kinath Occultists tend to make excellent spies. They gain the ability to read quickly, hear whispered words, gaze through others eyes, and similar magical knacks for gathering information.

Kargran

Kargran is the oldest of the three siblings Kinath, Kargran, and Istran. His true form is a long snake with a bison head and 13 fur-covered wings. When walking among humans, he looks to be a man of middle age with a thick black beard, large arms, and a bald head. Kargrans ambition is wealth. He wishes to have all the world's gold and wealth. There is no reason for this other than greed. Kargran offers power for wealth. Sacrifices of gold and artwork are common. Those who fall prey to his greed tend to become poor and miserable. Sometimes, poor souls end up in debt to Kargran. This is considered one of the most foolish things that you can do, as Kargran will torture those who owe him until a descendent or friend pays the debt.

The Coveter

An occultist who has been given Kargrans gift is called a Coveter. The abilities granted by Kargran give the Coveter strength and durability. This strength is euphoric to use and can be addicting to the weak-willed. Occultists of Kargran often end up as mercenaries, turning in their gold to Kargran for more power.

Istran

Istran is the middle child of the siblings. She is a bug-like creature with legs that stretch a mile down into the reflective sky. Her body is the size of a mountain and appears to be a termite with a woman's body laying on its back. The body is upside down and melds into the Carapace. The head of the body lies limp where the head of the termite body would be. Its mouth is outstretched with a spider’s head looking out, and pincers protrude from the eye sockets. The legs and arms of the woman grasp onto the legs of this monstrous Nerre. Istran, despite appearances, is a being of beauty. She is obsessed with being the most beautiful in the world and wishes to see the world more beautiful. Because of this, she takes the form of whoever is the most beautiful in the eyes of those she wishes to speak to. Sometimes, Istran will take a male form.

The Esthetic

Worshipers of Istan who gain her gift are called the Esthetic. Istran seeks to remove all things ugly from this world. So sacrifices of ugly things appease her. Burning poorly made art, deformed people, and decrepit buildings are common forms of sacrifice. In return, Istran grants abilities to enhance one's beauty and grace. However, Istran punishes occultists who allow themselves to become ugly. This punishment usually results in disgusting mutations and deformed bodies.

Geldah

Geldah is also known as the Mother. Her form is mutable, changing every century or so. Currently, her form is that of a massive raven with a lizard-like face that contains two mouths. Its feathered tale is replaced with a long cats tale, and its feet are human hands. Geldah is obsessed with witches and puppeteers. She absolutely loves the use of warp pearls and encourages their use.

The Sorcerer

To gain her boon, you must be willing to accept her mutations and become a Sorceror. She warps the minds and flesh of occultists who worship her. In return, the occultists are given minor powers akin to witches. They are not nearly as powerful as a true witch, but the risk of death from ingesting a warp pearl is bypassed. Geldah occasionally gives her followers warp pearls of her own design. These have black swirls mixed with the blue. These pearls always grant mutations to whatever they are placed in.

Thiothi

Thiothi is the smallest of the Nerre, but he is still taller than most buildings. He is a five-headed canine beast with six legs. He posses leathery wings as well. The five heads are all different from each other. The primary head is an ape head with rhinoceros horn. Another on a long, snake-like neck is a goat's head. The third head is situated next to the ape head and looks like a bear. The fourth head is human that dangles lifelessly. The final head is on the tip of the Nerre’s tail. This head is akin to a spider. Thiothi is the Nerre of nature. All things natural and primal is his domain. Thiothi is the only Nerre which never takes a human form.

The Druid

Occultists who worship him always live as hermits away from. Some call them druids, but these occultists are the least likely to be seen.

Huxarc

Huxarc is the eldest of the Nerre. Near the dawn of the world, Huxarc laid an egg which spawned Geldah and Thiothi. Huxark form is a bloated lizard with small, bee-like wings and a rat-like tail. Huxarcs leg are catlike with exaggerated claws. Huxarc’s domain is time. Legends tell that Huxarc was the first and will be the last being in existence. Old men with no past claim to have met Huxarc as children and children with the memories of a full grown person has been recorded before.

The Timeworn

Occultists who follow Huxarc are usually the elderly seeking youth or people seeking to undo a past action. They are referred to as the Timeworn.

Gugge

Gugge is the brother of Huxarc. Brothers being they came from the same event, rather than the same parent. Gugge is a Nerre that only leaves the reflected sky in extremely rare circumstances. When he does, his form is that of a massive humanoid skeleton with a snake skeleton instead of legs and a crow skull head. Gugge approaches humans in the form of a dead loved one. Gugge is a Nerre of death. Very few mortals who see Gugge live through the experience. But those that do never forget the feeling of dread and sense of helplessness.

The Necromancer

A follower of Gugge is obsessed with life and death. These occultists are commonly referred to as Necromancers. They sacrifice the healthy to Gugge in order to gain power over death. They are granted the ability to remove death from the recently deceased, bringing them back to life. This does not, however, heal any causes of death.

Ungollo

Ungollo is the only Nerre not directly related to the others. Unlike the others, Ungollo was created after the rise of humans. He was not born from another Nerre and he was not created at the dawn of time. Ungollo was formed from the combined nightmares of humanity as they learned of the terrors of the skies. Ungollo is a shifting mass of oil and blood but leaves no trace. The only stable part of his monstrous body is his large unblinking human eyes and gaping wolf smile. When taking the form of a human, he appears to be a grotesquely skinny man with no hair. Ungollo was born from fear and wallows in it.

The Ghoul

An Occultist that gains the gift of Ungollo is called a Ghoul. Ungollo appears in the nightmares of his Ghouls every night. Most cultists that follow Ungollo do not do so willingly. Rather, they are simply too afraid to deny him. His sacrifices are not without their benefits, however. His occultists can control the fear of others.
