Bovyox (bah-v-yox)
Domesticated mammalian herbivore. Would be considered in the Bovid family. They are grazers.
Heavily built, bulky frame, and four sturdy legs with cloven hooves. They have small ears. It has a large forehead with horns that sweep out from the sides and curve forward and back (almost in an "L" shape). Males' horns become tightly curled and corkscrew-like when they start to jet backwards. The horns of both sexes grow throughout their life. Long shaggy hair that hangs below the belly, with a dense woolly undercoat. Tails are long and almost reach the ground. Their fur is typically a rich brown to black color. At the end of winter their coat grows thinner and lighter.
Bovyox are sexually dimorphic, with females being smaller in weight and size, whilst also having smaller horns. Males are typically called "bulls" whilst females "cows".
They are social animals, typically found in herds in cold, high elevated areas. Bovyox have a regular seasonal migration path when able.
Their mating season occurs during late summer. Males preform courtship displays to entice females. Males then scare off competitors by threat displays, bellowing, charging each other, and spars with their horns (i.e. headbutting). It has been observed that females tend to court males who have larger horns and more bulk than others. Gestation lasts between 260-270 days. Babies are usually born around late spring, early summer. When time, the female finds a secluded spot to give birth.
Raised for milk, meat, wool, and fertilizer. Their horns are believed to have special powers. Can be trained as both a working animal and riding animal. Domesticated Bovyox are found mostly on farms, ranches, or free grazing with shepherds near by. They are common in the wild as well. Originally found in Confederacy lands, due to their myriad of uses they have quickly spread throughout the Known World.
Natural predators are pack animals and large aero-fauna.
Different regions pronounce the word differently. Some regions use "bah-v-yox" and others "bah-vox" with the y being silent.
