Bubble Day In the Garden's of Volatch

Written by GoldLinaric
Bubble day is the celebrations of Sylvia celebrated through out the The Sylvan Queendoms . While it is a celebration of Sylvia through out the queendom, each nation celebrates it differently and a different time for when the celebration occurs. However, these dates are all fall relatively close to each other.

The Blessing of The Flowers

For the Gardens of Volatch This day comes as the flowers bloom and nectar is able to be gathered. Once the flowers bloom, the fae of Volatch and the larger citizens from nearby villages gather at the great flower fields near Volatch as the sun rises. The Fae Queen will hold a ritual, offering praise to Sylvia and casting a spell to ward harmful insects. As the spell is cast and the sun starts to peek in the glade several fae fly through the field searching and stimulating the bubble producing flowers. As the flowers start to bloom, thousands of bubbles are released from the flowers floating into the air.

The Festival and Tournament

Once these bubbles are released, the festivities begin. The fae are free to drink from the flowers, play and have fun. Bubbly tricks are most definitely encourage, especially with non-fae. They will bubble the human, elves and the like and carry them about in the air to show the wonderful sights you just can't get on the ground.   It has long been tradition that the Fae Queen show some magic fundamentals of bubble-based magic to young casters. Following these lessons, she holds two tournaments, to see who can bubble who. One tournament is just among the students, prizes of more lessons from the queen herself. The other is a grander tournament any can participate in including the Queen who must participate. The loser will remain in bubbles into the even and used to decorate Volatch, and should anyone but the Queen win, they may make one request of the Queen. The Queen, however, gets to hold onto the person who was eliminated last for a week to play with and tease. In the modern era, Queen Kiki Castone has taken attempts to even teach humans, despite their lack of attunement and has shown a few capable candidates.

The Night under the Stars and Bubbles

As the sun sets the fae queen casts a spell and the bubbles decorating Volatch are illuminated. the fae full and tired will calm down and spend the evening outside, eventually falling asleep on the flowers, tree branches or even bubbles. The morning of the next day the bubbled victims to pranks and the tournament are set free. While not exactly considered part of the celebration, the following week the fae are in especially good cheer and playful. It is very common for visitors to be targeted of bubbly pranks, at least more so than normal.

History

The fae were particularly vulnerable during the War of the Gods. Their small stature made them particularly vulnerable to the armies of Lia. Even as powerful mages there were easily out matched by the army of humans. So they were particularly thankful to Sylvia to be taken to her holy lands. As very nature attuned creatures they relished in the lively and unique atmosphere and drank from the unique flowers. their diet quickly resulted in the development of the ability to naturally produce and breath out a thick bubble film. They naturally saw this as a gift from the bubbly goddess and became even more devote worshipers.   It quickly became customary to welcome the blooming of the bubble flowers as respect for the goddess. The prayed that the flowers continue to provide the sweet nectar to which they survive on. As the nation grew more diverse and the larger Queendoms became connected. The Fae were torn between their tradition and including others. They chose not to change however found their pranks could be used to help incorporate the more land bound friends into the festival.

Execution

Being closely tied to nature the fae's choose to celebrate as soon as the flowers bloom, for variety of reasons primarily as respect to the goddess, nature and their food supply. They use the knowledge of the plants and their delicate hands to find the appropriate flowers and encourage them to produce the desired nectar and bubbles. This is to offer a display to their goddess as well as food for the festivity all while not harming the plants. The choice to even incorporate magic is to honor gifts to which they believe Sylvia has blessed them with even trying to share them with others in a belief that it would make the goddess happy.

Participants

The Royal Palace of Volatch organizes the celebration itself as it is seen as a critical aspect of the running of the Gardens.  As spring arrives they monitor the flowers and make preparations.   The Queen prepares for her ritual as well as consults her spell weavers to make sure things go as smooth as possible particularly in the training of new mages.
