Qualifications
To become a pet in Slimea, you need mostly to fulfill two criteria. First, you need to be able to submit yourself to your master and accept them as what they are: The dominant part of this social construct. And second, you need to be at least 18 years old. Kids are not allowed to become pets, as they are legally still under the protection of their guardians or parents.
Payment & Reimbursement
A pet lives with its master. They do not receive direct payment in the form of money, but instead, the master needs to take care of all basic necessaries for their pet. This includes providing them with a private space, including things like a bed, clothes, and meals, and even financing them small hobbies to a certain extent. The master is the guardian and has a similar role as a parent to their kid.
Other Benefits
Depending on the master, a pet may have different kinds of strong benefits.
In general, being a pet means that you legally are owned by your master. This contract can be voided by any side at any time and is not a form of slavery, but of voluntary submission. The pet must receive a bed and private space, as well as a certain amount of free time and the financial resources to follow their hobbies during their free time.
All legal obligations are cared for by the master. A pet does not need to pay taxes, does not need to take care of its papers, or need its own living space. All of these are provided by the master. To what extend the master takes care of these things is a negotiation between master and pet. In rare cases, a pet may choose to let all things be handled by the master, while they live in the day and care not for anything.
Depending on the master, there may be more benefits. Most masters in Slimea are Hunters, and this grants the pet access to the abilities and the protection of their master. If a pet comes not home in the evening, the hunter will search for their pet.

Perception
Purpose
Masters who provide living space, money, meals and many other benefits for their pets often also want something back from them. It differs heavily what kind of work a pet does for its master. Sometimes it is only that they clean the home, cook meals and are there when the master returns home, giving them company and a family. Especially Hunter masters let their pets often take care of caught prey, help them with their hunts or help their master with training their abilities or plan out their next hunts. Many pets also do the paper work for their master or in general work as their butler or maid.
On farms, a pet also helps out with the daily farm work and provides their specific species materials, like Sheep-Human provide their wool for their master to sell.
Social Status
A pet is a rather special status in society, as it heavily depend on who the master is. A common farmer grants no special rank to their pets and they mostly just live and work with them on their farm. A powerful Hunter like Anna Mueller grants her pets a very high rank in society. Famous hunters have famous pets and it is not uncommon that these pets become equally celebrities as their masters, especially if friendships with them means easier access to their master.
Demographics
A pet is a luxury thing, as the master needs the money or the power to take care of their pet. While it is not a rare thing, it is not a super common profession as well, especially as not all are fit to submit themselves voluntarily and fully to a master.
History
At the begin of the Hunter culture, many powerful hunters quickly gathered fans around themselves. These fans cared not that the hunters were criminals and helped them out whenever they could. Many of these beneficial relationships for both sides turned into the relationship of a master and a pet.
After the Hunter's Decree was released, the legal status of pets quickly came to the table and the government of the Queendom of Slimea quickly created laws to define what it meant to be a pet and to prevent abuse by the master. A master should take care of their pet and the pet should always have the option to void the contract.
As the Federation of Slimea formed, they copied the pet laws and the relationship of master and pet quickly spread together with the Hunter culture. There are other nations as well that legalized having a humanoid pet and restricted the relationship to protect the pet from the moods of their master. In modern societies, especially those with non-human farms or hunters, pets are a legal and common thing.

Operations
Workplace
A pet lives with its master and the master must give the pet a room to live in and a bed to sleep in. The exact size and other conditions are negotiated between the master and the pet. The pet also helps out their master with their work, meaning they often work in the same workplace.
Provided Services
A pet works for their master, often in the household or by helping them out with their master's work. Typical jobs for pets are cleaning the house, cooking meals, or organizing appointments for their master.
Pets who live on farms also help out with their daily farm life. Those pets who have special abilities or can produce certain products will give these into service of their master as well, like Sheep-Human provide their extra wool. A special case is pets of Hunters, as they also often take care of their master's prey and help them in defining their skills by playing the prey for their master.
Pets in The Sylvan Queendoms
The Sylvan Queendoms have partaken in the custom of Pets for many decades. This system is very similar to that which the Federation of Slimea uses. The pets willingly submit to a master, and in return they offer obedience. A pet is considered a part of the owner's family, despite the level of servitude. The practice of pets in the Queendoms has its roots in the early days of the Queendoms. In the time, the elves of The Blessed Nation of Syl enslaved several of the other races in the absence of Sylvia. Cruelty was abundant at the time, but some elves spared their slaves such acts and acted far kinder and treated them as pets. Even when slavery technically ended, many pets remained and businesses would form around the concept of training and selling pets. Due to the association with slavery, Pets are closely monitored by the local governments to ensure pets are treated fairly. This is to ensure that the practice isn't being used to skirt the recent laws outlawing most forms of forced servitude.

Legality
Depending on the nation, a pet has different rights and benefits. The most liberal laws are in the Federation of Slimea, where the exact conditions of a master pet relationship are negotiated between these two sides. The nation only involves itself if one side wants to void the contract or if they have signs that one side abuses the other one. Many other nations have more restrictive laws for this very special relationship or forbid it as a form of modern slavery.
