Summonings
The process of summoning the gods, the spirits, or even the demons can be a difficult process. It usually involves a large variety of things, like words, food, objects, body parts.
Summoning is not something many magic users in Verinar like doing. It's hard, frustrating, and does not always work. There are always various ways to do a summoning, mostly because all the objects in a spell such as this are metaphors, symbols, ideas, of the thing a magic user is attempting to summon. For example, one common summoning is one of the dead. Although most summonings would not dare be as generic as this, this example will work for our purposes. (I will also say some people do not care which dead person they summon as long as it is a dead person, but that's a different topic for a different day.)
When summoning the dead, I know at least three different "recipes". One involves something dead, something new, and air. Another involves a crow or raven's feather, a white or red flower, a wolf's fur, and a tombstone. And a third one requires a hand, a foot, and a claw, (fresh or old it does not specify) , any black feather, and a "breath of life".
As I'm sure you can see simply based on these three different "recipes" there are at least three different ways to summon a dead person, and what if you were to switch out some items for an item in a different "recipe"? Would it still work? What if you had a black feather, but no hand or foot? Could you use the black feather in place of the crow or raven's feather?
In all honesty, I do not know. I have never done this summoning, and I most likely never will. But you, my daring wizard friend, are quite welcome to try. If you happen to do so, tell me how it went.
