Drow (Dr-Ow)

Drow

History

The Drow were the last of the elves to be created but believe themselves to be the perfected version of elves. They were created to be wardens of the underdark, to help maintain a balance in the creatures there and to keep them from reaching the surface. They have built several kingdoms and empires throughout the underdark but they are resentful of the surface dwellers and their perceived favor from the gods.

Society

The Drow are ruled by a queen or empress, they live by very strict laws set by the queen/empress with guidance from Nohmera, Goddess of Night and Darkness. Those that shun the law of Nohmera are often exiled. The families of those exiled are forbidden from communicating with them any further. Should any communication be discovered the entire family will be exiled. They believe strongly in honor through service to their queen/empress and service to Nohmera.

Appearance

  • Height - The Drow tend to range in height between five and six feet tall. They are considered medium creatures.
  • Build - Drow use their slender forms to help them with traversing the narrow passages of the underdark.
  • Hair - Drow hair colors tend towards deep dark blues and black. Many of royal decent though have shiny silver hairs.
  • Skin - Drow skin tones are in the deep blue to grey range.
  • Facial Hair - Drow are incapable of growing facial hair.

Traits

  • Age - Although elves reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, the elven understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. An elf typically claims adulthood and an adult name around the age of 100 and can live to be 750 years old.
  • Speed - Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
  • Superior Darkvision - Generations of living in the underdark has given the Drow darkvision to a distance of 120 feet.
  • Drow Magic - You know the dancing lights cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the faerie fire spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the darkness spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
  • Drow Weapon Training - You have proficiency with rapiers, shortswords, and hand crossbows.
  • Sunlight Sensitivity - You have disadvantage on attack rolls and on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when you, the target of your attack, or whatever you are trying to perceive is in direct sunlight.
  • Trance - Elves don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.
