Sea Elves

Sea Elves

History

Sea Elves were created out of necessity, Azohr needed to help his future creations spread through out all of the inhabitable land and through out the seas, lakes, and rivers. The Sea Elves learned the waters of Soanus and began to teach the other creatures on how navigate them safely. Sea Elves have only ever had one real power in this world and that was the Storm Sea Empire on that existed above and below the surface. This empire was a rival to those of the High Elves and some of the those from the newer races. Eventually though this empire went on a crusade of wanting to stop all large trading ships that were damaging their waters, with anchors breaking reefs, and garbage being thrown overboard. This lead to the trading companies partnering with pirates to stop the attacks on all of their ships and push the Sea Elves back in to the waters. The Sea Elves were eventually left with on city above the water and none know how many below.

Society

Like their Wood Elf cousins, the Sea Elves are a matriarchal society. This was changed from a patriarchal society that lead to the lose of their empire above the sea. The current Ocean Queen keeps her capital city secret and forbid outsiders from all of their underwater cities. Leary of surface dwellers since the War for Independence they tend to keep them distanced from Sea Elf society.

Appearance

  • Height - The shortest of the elves, Sea Elves tend to be between four feet two inches and five feet 5 inches. They are considered medium creatures.
  • Build - Sea Elves tend towards more muscular/athletic builds as a life swimming has built up lean muscles in their race.
  • Hair - Sea Elf hair tends to be in the blue/green spectrum as to match their environment.
  • Skin - Most Sea Elves are colors in the same blue/green palette as their hair.
  • Facial Hair - None
  • Age - Although elves reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, the elven understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. An elf typically claims adulthood and an adult name around the age of 100 and can live to be 750 years old.

Traits

  • Sea Elf Training - You have proficiency with the spear, trident, light crossbow, and net.
  • Child of the Sea - You have a swimming speed of 30ft, and you can breathe air and water.
  • Friend of the Sea - Using gestures and sounds, you can communicate simple ideas with any beast that has an innate swimming speed.
  • Languages - You can speak, read, and write Common, Elvish, and Aquan.
  • Speed - Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
  • Improved Darkvision - Accustomed to life at the depths of the seas you have improved darkvision. You can see in dim light within 120 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
  • Keen Senses - You have proficiency in the Perception skill.
  • Trance - Elves don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.
