History of the Golden Reef

Under a hierarchy of angels, the Golden Reef was unchanging for aeons. Then came the canguinate anthrals, hunting the angels to extinction and replacing their order with a brutal system of blood and torment. The Golden Reefs shining past is now a story headed toward a dark future.

    Sanguinates land on the Golden Reef
    Population Migration / Travel

    Cast out from anthral societies on the western coast of Sof Sator, sanguinates led by Admiral Al'uy land on the northeastern coast of the Isle of the Spheres in the Golden Reef. They are the first voyagers from Sof Sator to make a landing on the isle. They number just over 1000 sanguinates with a "livestock" cargo of around 3000 other anthrals.

    Al'uy's Conquest of Angels
    Military: War

    Admiral Al'uy led a five-month campaign across the Isle of the Spheres, taking the City of Marble one sphere at a time. The first sphere to fall was Sphere 7, the northernmost, in May. After this Al'uy and his Sanguinates too spheres 5, 6, and 4 in January of 693 CR; spheres 2 and 3 in February; and sieged sphere 1 throughout March and April. In May, the palace of sphere 1 fell to the sanguinates.

    Kingdom of the Golden Reef Declared
    Founding

    The sanguinate invaders of the Golden Reef found a new government they call the Kingdom of the Golden Reef. They inhabit the City of Marble and base their government on the hierarchy of the now-extinct angels. Admiral Al'uy is proclaimed King as well as Supreme Seraph of the First Sphere. Six other bloodlines are elevated to nobility and their leaders are christened Supreme Seraphs of lesser spheres.

    The line of Al'uy rules the Golden Reef
    Political event

    The original conqueror of the Golden Reef, King Al'uy, established its first ruling line. There were two rulers after him, long-lived thanks to the ready availability of angelic blood to feed on. They fell out of power in 920 CR.

    Trade agreement of Revan and the Golden Reef
    Diplomatic action

    Revan recognizes the Kingdom of the Golden Reef. King Hysmal of Revan and King Avul'al'uy sign a trade agreement. All sanguinate raids against Revan-aligned ports cease.   As a result of this agreement, Redfall Reach has independence forced upon it. The city is abandoned by Revan, and continues to be the focus of sanguinate raids.

    Revan Immigration Pact
    Diplomatic action

    In a pact negotiated by King Avul'al'uy of the Golden Reef, Revan agrees to serve as a sanctuary for sanguinates across Sof Sator. From now on, any sanguinate that can safely reach Revan will be sent by sea to the Golden Reef.

    Height of the Golden Reef's growth
    Cultural event

    The Kingdom of the Golden Reef is experiencing a historical influx of immigrants and captives. The kingdom has reached a population of over five thousand sanguinates and more than twenty thousand other anthrals serving as servants or livestock.

    Death of King Avul'al'uy, ascension of King Lorivul'al'uy
    Life, Death

    King Avul'al'uy dies of natural causes. A brief struggle for succession takes place among the nobles of the Golden Reef. As a result, the two oldest heirs of Al'uy are killed, as well as the head of the line of Al'muth and that family's two oldest heirs. The youngest son of Avul'al'uy, Lorivul'al'uy, is proclaimed king.

    The Golden Reef's population reaches capacity
    Cultural event

    The Golden Reef now boasts a population of more than ten thousand sanguinates and more than 150,000 other anthrals. Immigration of new sanguinates to the Golden Reef has slowed to some hundred individuals per year. The servant and livestock populations are now self-sustaining, and coastal raids are conducted less frequently. Management of the Reef's massive slave population is a massive challenge of infrastructure.

    The Ossean Campaign
    Military: War

    Revan and the Golden Reef launch a joint campaign against the Osseans in Northwestern Sof Sator, led by King Alor'al'uy and King Hysmal. Cradsoun and Gray Watch, despite the distraction of their own Thousand Year War, send token forces in support of the Osseans, tacitly creating an alliance that includes the Osseans, the Nor Sator League, Arin, and Redfall Reach. However, Arin turns against the Osseans, and all defense against Revan and the Golden Reef fails. This campaign will result in the near-extinction of the Osseans and the death of Alor'al'uy, and will have magical repercussions throughout the continent.

    The line of Al'muth rules the Golden Reef
    Political event

    The line of Al'muth oversaw a brief, chaotic period in the history of the Golden Reef. With four rulers in just forty years, they fell out of power in 960 CR.

    The line of Al'ain rules the Golden Reef

    Following the disastrous rule of he line of Al'muth, the rulers of Al'ain had much better success. Since 960 CR, they have had six rulers. Circa 1090 CR, the most recent ruler of the Golden Reef is still of the line of Al'ain.

    Queen Aetha'al'ain comes to power
    Political event

    Following the death of her father, Queen Aeth'al'ain becomes the ruler of the Golden Reef. Immediately following her coronation, she orders that all monuments to rulers prior to the line of Al'ain be destroyed. She advances new policies to contain the blood plagues in affected districts, and sets severe rationing measures against the feeding of less high-born sanguinates.

    Second Ossean Campaign
    Military action

    Queen Aetha'al'ain of the Golden Reef leads a military campaign against the colony of New Ossea. The Ossean's allies in the Nor Sator League are unable to provide assistance. As of this action, the Osseans are believed to be extinct throughout Sof Sator.

    Queensfury Rebellion
    Revolution

    Reacting to perceived dissent in the Seventh Sphere of the Golden Reef, the sanguinate queen Aeth'al'ain ordered the district closed and removed protections from non-sanguinate residents in the area. This at first seemed to trigger a massacre of anthral "livestock," but quickly turned as the people of the district resisted and pushed the sanguinates out. In the following days, the Seventh Sphere was held by dissidents.
