Atshen

The Atshen is a monster of Sognian legend. No citizen of the Seven Holy Steads have ever seen one, and the Scholars' Guild has found no evidence of their actual existence.
The Atshen is described as a bipedal beast covered in light gray fur. Its teeth are long and sharp, its ears thick and pointed, with heavy brows and a short snout. At full height it reaches around twelve feet tall. It is slower, but also quiet for its size, and blends in well with the snow-covered tundra of the Frostlands. With its large, clawed hands and its powerful jaw, it can tear its prey easily in two.
Unlike other creatures, the Atshen begin as humans who practice dark magic and cannibalism. Some Sognian legends say that their transformation into the beast is a punishment from the Shining Ones themselves. Others say that they intentionally turned themselves into the beasts in order to more easily satiate themselves on human flesh.
The Atshen is said to make its home in the caves of the northernmost stretch of the Daggers and to hunt Sogni herders in the tundra in the midst of snowstorms.
