Personal history

Topaz grew up nameless in poverty on the streets with no family and had to teach herself to fight to survive, never knowing when she would get her next meal. She learned that violence was the first and only option in order to live another day.
One day, she tried to mug a stranger wandering the streets (which was laughable since she could fall over from a small breeze due to her starvation). The man was a treasure hunter named Berric and wound up taking her in with his partner, a former monk named Arlen that he met during his adventures, and they became her parents. They gave her the name Topaz for her golden eyes (and because she was their treasure).
Years later at the age of 23, Topaz is now ready to set out her own and find the "ultimate treasure" to set her family for life and show her gratitude to her fathers. She leaves home without a clue of what she's looking for, but determined to make them proud.

Education

Topaz learned how to appraise artifacts, gems, and other treasures from Berric. She became so knowledgeable that she can tell you exactly how much an item is worth just by looking at it.
From Arlen, she learned to only resort to violence as a last resort, and never to kill another person. This was particularly hard for Topaz given her upbringing, and she still struggles to hold back. Arlen trained her to polish her hand-to-hand combat skills, and other monk skills.

Mental Trauma

Always fearing reliving her days in poverty and famish, Topaz struggles to share food and coin. She only spends when she has to and eats like it's her last meal.

Intellectual Characteristics

Topaz can tell with just a glance how much coin something is worth, and whether something is genuine or a replica. Her concern with money and food has overshadowed her sociabilities, so she often speaks out of turn and lacks certain social cues. Though she is not purposefully unkind, she only seems to show her affectionate side to her fathers, as they are the only ones who have shown her kindness.
