Rodenta
Rodenta consists of a number of species that genetically do not fall under one family but, over the course of time, grouped together nonetheless for the sheer yet limited familiarity.
Rats were part of the second generation. They have a uniform colour of black fur. Early in the generation's creation, there was a hiccup in the genes where black fur was a dominant trait. The black fur was adopted as their species identity. In a sense, it was a sign of their species' purity. If a rat's fur deviated from it (Naturally or artificially) then it was viewed as a front to their culture.
Mice were seen as independent (to a sometimes fierce level), hate to rely on others, and eager to volunteer. They are seen as quick-witted, short-tempered, and sharp-tongued.
Squirrels are often not seen as ones who stand out in the name of their own kind. They see themselves as their own folk. They can be open-minded and are often not limited to cultural limitations.
