The group, consisting of Felana Ortila, a Succubus Paladin, Sornen Kaz'gomiuth, a Half-Fiend Half-Human, Lorgar Quetienberg, a Half-Celestial Half-Human, and Gaelan Archimedes, a Bard Shapeshifter, gathered at Felana's home for their first session. Sornen was the first to notice a strange book on a bookshelf that stood out from the rest. Upon inspection, the group discovered that the pages were blank, and when Gaelan wrote his cover name "Fenris" in the book, nothing happened. However, when Felana used her spell Detect Evil and Good, she found that the book was heavily imbued with Evil. Felana immediately cast it out of her home, but it was too late. Zombies began to rise from the ground, and the party had to fend them off. During the battle, Gaelan started to feel sick, and Lorgar suggested that they visit the local library to find answers about the strange book and Gaelan's ailment.
