Operation Details
PVT F-Up:
Lt. Ambrose briefed us on this particular mission. We had three main objectives.
1. Gather as much information regarding Cobh as possible,
2. Delivery no more than ½ the explosives known to be on the way to Cobh
3. Survive to bring back the information. (i.e.: don’t get captured or killed)
Lt. Ambrose also provided a minor demonstration regarding the danger of this material and its explosive force. We were also (each of us) loaned some hats that would allow us to disguise ourselves from the Jims. We were required to return these hats, as they were only on loan.
After this briefing, we set out on our way to ambush the incoming carts. We managed to wake our way towards Cobh, and set-up an ambush site. The two carts approached along with five guards. Each cart was pulled by one horse. We managed to defeat the guards and capture both carts fully intact.
There was a fear that if we reported to Cobh with just one of the carts that they would send out a team to look for the remaining cart and potentially find it. We also did not want to blow up half of the gun powder and end up attracting a ton of attention. With these potential outcomes in mind, it was brought up that perhaps someone should drive one of the carts to the Fort Vega path. This would give the base the explosives, a horse, and a cart for use. The horse being especially useful to the base. After some serious discussion, the decision was made to split the party and have one person return to Fort Vegapath with the one of the carts. The one chosen to return, since the rest of the mission was thought to need a charismatic individual with a silver tongue (which I am not), was PVT ****-up.
Just before setting off, I re-iterated the goals of the mission to gather information and to ensure that they survived to bring the information back. After that, I set off. As I was setting off I noticed the remaining members set about hiding some of the bodies and covering up the tracks of the cart I was bringing back to Fort Vegapath. I safely made my way back to the fort with no trouble. I also returned my dunce cap.
From Klarion:
That went much better than last time.
Those of us assigned to this mission woke early in the morning, and I formally met Lt. Ambrose for the first time. She gave us the details of a mission; the town of Cobh was expecting a shipment of explosives to blow up the harbor in the event of an attack from Horsa. We were to steal the shipment and give them half, and discover any intel we could. Ambrose gave us a demonstration, using poor Rurik as a test dummy for how powerful the gunpowder was.
After traveling towards Cobh, we went to the north of the city where the carts were expected. The guards were quick work, and we took the carts, which featured the emblem of a wolf on a white and red shield. Fuck-Up took one back to camp, while the rest of us blew up a crate and hauled ass to Cobh, disguising ourselves as guards we'd killed.
Cobh turned out to be a ghost town, and we met with Captain Domine, one of the few guards in the city. I lied to her, telling her that the shipment had been ambushed by goblins and zombies, and she seemed to believe me. After a brief lunch, she informed us that the port wouldn't be ready without that last shipment of gunpowder.
We volunteered to assist with preparation with asked, and discovered that the entire port was a fucking bomb. They were taking the powder and shoving it into every nook, cranny, and hidey hole. Fortunately, it turned out they only had the labor and not the powder they needed. We sabotaged what we could before leaving, telling them they could expect the next shipment tomorrow.
On the way home, we encountered a peculiar sight - a trio of kobolds, who said we could not pass without entertainment or gifts. We did the former; I regaled them with a magnificent fable from my childhood, and we safely passed. We returned to camp at roughly 4 PM, debriefed with Ambrose, and went on our way.
From Doc:
We were briefed by Lt. Ambrose that Cobh planned to blow up their harbor if attacked. We were to ambush the shipment of explosives in order to steal half the explosives and impersonate the guards. Then we needed to deliver the remaining half of the shipment to get in so we could recover as much information as possible.
We circled around to the north of Cobh with no problems, and set up the ambush which went without any problems. Private Jacob drove one of the carts back, to ensure that half of the mission was completed no matter what. We disguised ourselves as some of the guards, and buried the others away from the road. We also set off one of the crates to help cover any details of the ambush (Note: We had to roll 50ft of rope in gunpowder to make a fuse, then use fire magic so we could light it from a distance. Blast radius is well over 60ft.)
The town was surprisingly empty, with almost everyone working. We were met by a Cpt. Domine, who Klarion it appeared convinced here of the ambush. During the following conversation, she mentioned most of the guards were gone, but they had enough to continue rigging the harbor. She doubted that the one cart would be enough, and said they'd need another cart load. We accepted a request to help at the harbor for a bit before heading back in order to find a way to keep the explosives from going off.
Unfortunately, they were putting the gunpowder into bags and spreading it all over the place, including hiding bags in containers and making fake cobblestones. All the fuses were being tied up to a central fuse that was hidden on the main road leading to the harbor, running between the cracks of the cobblestones and even under some. We were able to cut the fuses in multiple areas, including the main line (even cut the fuse under some of the cobblestones). Hopefully, they won't notice it before they attempt to light it. They allowed us to take the horse and empty cart, expecting us to bring more gunpowder tomorrow. We left Cobh to the north, before circling around to return to camp, covering our tracks just in case.
On the way back, we came upon a small glade with three kobolds. They introduced themselves as "the Council", requesting either a gift or entertainment in order to pass. We complied, each giving a small performance to pass (telling a story, playing drums, and juggling weapons) in order to prevent a confrontation that could be tracked.
Summary:
returned with 2 horses and 2 carts (ideally carts should be altered to avoid anyone recognizing them)
Harbor is a deathtrap, proceed with extreme caution if you need to approach
The work is incomplete, but they only need one more shipment of gunpowder to finish.
Central fuse was hidden along main road to harbor. Looks like they plan on having someone hide and light it when enemies enter.
