Operation Details
Background:
Many of our missions have come across the chasm to the south of the camp, which has led to countless close calls for our soldiers as they attempted to cross it. A mission was sent yesterday to build the bridge, and explore the chasm, but as of today they had not returned. Other groups who returned from their missions, reported that the cart they took was burnt black, one of the two horses they took were dead. There was no bridge, and the team was nowhere to be seen.
With the camp's decision to attack the Moonwell to the south, a bridge of some sort needs to be built across the chasm to allow the our camp to efficiently cross. It would also be advantageous to also build a bridge that would allow carts to cross, given that we'll need to move supplies to the Moonwell, if/once we take it.
The team gathered a variety of tools from both the cart by the shop, with permission from the Cpt, and purchased additional tools from Orion that are now also available in the cart. For the information of all soldiers, the following are now available in the cart to be borrowed (but must be returned) for any soldiers (we put them in after our mission completed):
1 2-handed lumber saw
2 shovels
3 hand axes (lumber)
2 pickaxes
2 hammers
1 sledgehammer
1 3-foot lumber saw
The team headed south from the camp, and we immediately started noticed that something was odd with the forest. While we made a great pace, we did notice that the forest seemed to be beckoning to us... all the animal life was still. One of our members pointed out there were whispers coming from every direction. These whispers weren't wind... they seemed vocal. There also seemed to be extra cloud cover, and the forest just seemed different than normal.
When we arrived, we did find the burnt cart, and the dead horse. We couldn't discern much, but the horse had puncture wound below its neck... with nowhere near enough blood. Looks more like incisions more than holes.
We did see two dots of lights at a far distance. They were traveling west to east (to the south of us), but they were at significant distance. Based on projections, they would take over a half hour... so we began working, but quietly.
Our plan involved having out three strongest people work on the trees Weloh + Belial on the 2 handed saw, Graham on the 3-foot saw, Bishop keeping watch, and Aceso ritually casting silence to help dampen the sounds of falling trees to some degree (cracking and falling near the bottom as it starts falling) – it couldn’t stop all the sound, but some! For more details see the attached schematics and plans for how it was constructed.
Through herculean power and efficiently by a few of our members, we were able to cut down 7 trees, and clean the lower branches. During this time, we were able to continual watch the torches in the distance to the south of us. We also avoided a couple close calls with wolves, by stopping when they were close.
At this point, Bishop noticed silhouettes in the distance approaching from the north. We initially moved deeper into the forest, off the beaten trail, to avoid the possible altercation. Eventually we were able to tell they were from the camp, and we met up with a team that had been sent by the Lt Tel due to an enemy force that was moving south of the camp.
Supplemental Members: Neamhni, Farolt, Aludira, Fruedek
We pointed the group toward the direction of the torches, but...
A "person" appeared on the other side of the chasm, from what seemed like the shadows... they simply apparated. The person proceeded to call out "this should be fun"... They casted something and the grass withered, the chasm turned to a river of blood... and the hue of the world changed... One of the soldiers called out to them, asking why they were here, and they responded by saying they were looking for "Aegir" by name. At this point, a battle began with this person, who will be referred to as Alpha from now on. Almost immediately the slight whispers we had heard before, as we initially headed south through the forest, became unimaginable more intense as "screams".
Battle Information:
Alpha:
------
2 Long distance attacks that seemed to impact with great force
A 5-foot diameter sphere area attack that stayed in place for a period, and seemed to have specters reaching out
Teleported away when he decided he didn't want to fight anymore
Ability to summon a massive flying wasp-like creature with a stinger after a few seconds of casting / controlling something in his hands
Able to control "screams" that seemed to come from all directions, which seemed to overwhelm people at times to cause:
- People to become frightened
- Physical mental pain
wielded a scimitar
Summons 4 hound like creatures
Hound like creatures:
---------------------
Piercing bite, which is made worse by the heat of its body
Ability to breath fire from its mouth in an area in front of itself
Massive Wasp (stinger) like creature:
-------------------
Piercing sting, which is also made worse by the heat of its body, along with seems to be additional poison
The two combined groups of soldiers were able to eliminate all the summoned hound(s) and the wasp like creatures by the end of the fight... but once we surrounded the boss, they decided they had enough, and simply teleported/disappeared in front of our eyes.
I regret to inform the camp that Aludira fell during the battle. She fought bravely and was able to save many people throughout the fight.
Following the fight, the screams stopped, and the chasm and the hue of the world reverted to normal.
After a discussion and vote, both teams decided to stay to help complete the bridge once we took some time to recover. Without going into detail (see the bridge plans and schematics), the two teams were able to complete the bridge within a few hours. The group decided to name the bridge after their fallen ally and etched her name into it -- Aludira. The "Aludira Bridge" shall hopefully be a huge help to all those who venture to the south in the future.
The two teams proceeded back to the camp without any issues. We did notice that the forest seemed to have returned to normal, the whispers had stopped, and everything seemed back to normal.
Following the debriefing, all the tools that were borrowed or purchased, were placed into the cart for other soldiers to utilize as needed – we simply ask are returned after use.
The body of Aludira will be kept in the field hospital until a final send-off can be completed.
