Objective

Recon the main island from the south and sabotage any canons we come across.

Observations

-Time seems to move slower on the island.       -There are very large aquatic creatures that swim the deeper waters off the island.       -The waters are much more rough just outside the island       -The flora and fauna seemed to be simpler versions of what we are used to seeing.       -Spell casters had their spell slots restored upon entering area around the island with the more magically inclined also taking spellfire damage.       -Spell casters could cast without using spell slots but risked taking spellfire damage every time they casted.       -Upon returning to the ship the spell casters retained their spell slots.

Follow up

A party of dragonborn or lizardfolk might be able to establish contact with village on south east of island inhabited by serpent like creatures.

Operation Details

We were told by Major Rem that other parties had already set out to the island to recon and that he was awaiting their return.   He ordered us to take a launch to the southern end of the island and begin our recon of the island there.   We were also ordered to take out any enemy canons we could in the process as the ship had been trading fire with the island all morning.   With help from Sirius we were able to board the launch and drop into the water without incident.   On our way to the main island we started taking canon fire from a tower on a small islet off the coast.   There were four skeleton creatures on the island, one firing the canon from the tower and three shooting us from the shoreline with longbows.   As we were nearing the island we took a direct hit from the canon which put a large hole in the side of the boat and we started taking on water quickly.   We were able to shape water and freeze enough of it to create a plug which helped slow the flow of water enough so that we could bale it and make it to shore.   Once on the small island we dispatched the remaining two skeletons whom we hadn't killed at range.   We then proceeded to dismantle the tower and take the boards from the floor of the tower to use to do a rudimentary patch job before pushing the weakened tower into the ocean along with the canon that was a top it.   After the patch job we were able to row to the main island where we moored the boat to the coral reef below and made a short swim to shore.   On our way there we were all hit by a warm sensation which affected members of the party differently depending on their magical abilities.   Once on the beach we noticed footprints which did not see to be humanoid or lead in any particular direction.   We also noticed two plumes of smoke, a large one far to the north and a smaller one off to the east.   We headed north into the jungle for about twenty minutes before turning due east and heading for the smoke plume.   On our way we noticed we were being followed by a small winged lizard creature which seemed to anticipate our movements and would dart out of sight when we attempted to lay eyes on it.   We sent up a familiar to see if it was alone and noticed two of the same creature before the familiar was eaten by a very fast moving very large bird like creature who happened to be flying by.   We retaliated against the large bird with a firebolt which caused it to turn around and engage us in combat, the other three creatures took advantage of this situation and also attacked.   After killing the three smaller creatures the large bird like creature took off.   Finding ourselves in a remote opening in the forest we attempted to short rest.   Thirty minutes into our rest a pair of serpentine creatures in light armor came through patrolling the area. They noticed us but did not disturb us.   As we finished our rest we could hear them still on patrol but they did not come back to where they had found us.   After our rest we determined we were only 45 minutes away from the source of the smoke and set out to see it for ourselves.   We made it out of the jungle and came across a bridge which led to a village of the serpentine creatures. The village consisted of huts and the inhabitants seemed to be going about normal daily life. The creatures seemed to have the body of a dragonborn or lizardfolk on their upper half but had the body of a snake where the lower body would be.   While deciding whether or not to establish contact with the village to see if they were hostile a loud alarm whistle went off and suddenly we were attacked by nearby creatures and noticed guards from inside the village making their way to our location.   The creatures included a large constrictor snake, a swarm of snakes and bird like creatures. The creatures seemed to be trained to defend the village, we had to kill the snakes to make it to the tree line but the birds would not leave the area just outside the village.   The guards from the village how ever pursued us into the jungle. After thirty minutes of running through the jungle they gave up their pursuit.   Having traveled at a quicker pace we soon were able to make it back to the beach where we discovered our launch was still moored where we had left it and afloat.   We quickly boarded the launch, cut the mooring line and headed straight for The King's Legacy. On our way out we again passed through the tempestuous waters that seemed to be the border from the island and the rest of the world. When we emerged we found that while it had been mid afternoon when we left the island it was now night out on the other side.   We pulled up along side the boat and Sirius dropped us ropes to secure the boat to the lift before pulling the boat up to the deck. He was not thrilled about the hole the cannon had made in the launch.   We were then debriefed by Major Rem who also took note of the hole in the launch and were informed that some of the other parties had also made it back from their recon.
