Vestra Valenstride

Comtesse Vestra Valenstride (a.k.a. Kartika)

Personal History

Vestra was born as a daughter of the noble House of Valenstride, yet her lineage bore the stain of her grandfather’s unholy experiments. As a result, she exhibited prominent demonic traits. Although the Valenstride family was aware of the existence of tieflings, they decided to raise Vestra alongside her sister despite her unusual nature. There were, however, certain limitations: Vestra was prohibited from attending any public events, and her existence was never considered in the future plans of the family.
One fateful day, the noble estate fell victim to a bandit raid that exploited a security breach to abduct Vestra’s sister, the future heiress of House Valenstride. During the assault, the attackers set large parts of the ancestral gardens ablaze to sow panic and confusion. Sensing the imminent danger, Vestra’s sister attempted to escape the abduction. In the ensuing struggle, however, she was mortally wounded and left behind by the fleeing bandits, her body abandoned amidst the inferno.
Drawn by the acrid smoke, Vestra arrived at the burning garden to find her sister gravely injured. Desperately, she tried to save her, but it was too late. When the guards finally reached the scene, they found Vestra kneeling in her sister’s blood. Given her demonic nature and her already tenuous standing within the family, the guards immediately suspected jealousy and murder as the motive. Her own family believed the guards’ account, and the tragic circumstances painted Vestra as a murderer.
Trapped in a web of prejudice and mistrust, Vestra was imprisoned deep beneath the castle’s stone walls. Day by day, hatred and bitterness gnawed at her. Over the years of isolation and harsh treatment in the dungeons, Vestra lost her former gentleness. The constant solitude and the guards’ perpetual suspicion forced her to suppress her emotions and embrace anger as a shield. Over time, she developed a fierce, tempestuous nature that helped her survive in this hostile environment.
One day, the now hardened and calculating Vestra seized upon a moment of the guards’ negligence and escaped her grim prison.
During her flight, she stole some unique battle shears renowned throughout the Valenstride lineage, a weapon she had been trained to wield since childhood. Consumed by hatred for the bandits and betrayal by her own family, Vestra set out into the world. Over the years, she transformed into a ruthless and feared warrior and a cunning criminal.
