Realms

The Three Realms

There are three main realms that make up the universe: Mortal Realm (Midgard), Astral Realm (Tir Na Nog), and the Cosmic Realm (Akasha).
  The supernatural and mystical are what lies beyond or above that which humans consider nature or natural; that which is not from the observable, tangible, or measurable universe, especially regarding divine or transcendent things/beings/actions/realms. Many think 'supernatural' simply means there's no known explanation for it. They use 'supernatural' the way some people speak of "the God of the Gaps", as a stopgap measure until somebody finds a reasonably-reasonable 'answer'.   Many others use 'supernatural' to describe just about anything that happens a little strangely. Some people are prone to superstition, syncretism, UFOs, and lifestyle fiction (like in TV shows or movies), or need to have a handy place to fix the blame. They fixate on the 'supernatural', so they don't have to admit they don't know.

Mortal Realm

  The Mortal Realm is the most simplistic. Basic Laws of Nature and Science apply in this particular Realm, identical to the Real Life World we live in as authors of this RPG. This Realm is located on the Planet Atabey. Regularists and Necessitarians have agreed to five conditions necessary, to be considered a Law of Nature. They are as follows:
  1. Factual Truth, not logical;
  2. It is true for all times and locations;
  3. Contains no proper names;
  4. May contain general concepts;
  5. Are universal and statistical;
  6. And are conditional, not categorical.
Some examples are shown below for clarification:
  • “The boiling point of sulfur is 444.6° Celsius” expresses a factual truth. “Every number has a double” expresses a logical truth.
  • There are no laws of nature that hold just for the planet Atabey (or the Andromeda Galaxy, for that matter), nor are there any that hold just for the Eighteenth Century or just for the Mesozoic Era.
  • Laws of nature may contain general concepts, such as “mass”, “color”, “aptitude”, “capital”, “diabetes”, “return on investments”, etc.; but may not contain such terms as “the Fraser River”, “the planet atabey”, “$59.22”, “June 18, 1935”, “IBM”, etc.
  • “(All pure) copper conducts electricity” expresses a law of nature. But “Stars exist” (although true) does not express a law of nature: it is neither a universal nor a statistical claim.
  • Categorical claims which are equivalent to conditional claims (e.g. “There are no perpetual motion machines of the first kind” which is equivalent to “If anything is a perpetual motion machine then it is not of the first kind”) are candidates for lawfulness.
  • Categorical claims (again) “There are stars” which are not equivalent to conditionals are not candidates for lawfulness.
Note: Laws of physics that are expressed mathematically are taken to be elliptical for conditional truths. For example, the law “mv = mo/(1 – v2/c2)½” is to be read as equivalent to “for any massy object, if its velocity is v, then its mass [mv] is equal to its rest mass [mo] divided by …”
  Seems like a lot of work but it is the world you actually live in right now, in real life. If you can function and learn in the real world, then living or visiting the Midgard Realm will be easy for you. It is easy to navigate something you already know and understand.

Astral Realm

The Astral Realm is supernatural. It is an aspect of what underlies all that happens in the material world of Midgard, including ourselves and everyone else around us. The Midgard Realm is where the Astral Realm applies itself. Think of it like an invisible blanket that is laid right atop the material Realm of Midgard. This Realm is constructed of a higher frequency of particles and is therefore not able to be seen by mortals of the Midgard Realm.   Think of your brain as a data processing unit, on your computer. Everything you see on the screen is just an interpretation of the data collected by the system. You don't see all the binary code that is making it work, you are only viewing the processed data. Being able to view a higher frequency of particles and waves, means your brain will be able to process more information about the world around it. Because the Astral Realm lies atop the Midgard Realm, this means that what you see in the Astral Realm, is not the same as you would see in the Midgard Realm. It is completely different. They are different all the way around.   Although you will find many of the same Wares in the Astral Realm, as you would the Midgard Realm, these Wares are separated by Realms in this specific RPG. Some are the same, but not all. For example; you will find iron in the Astral Realm (as a Raw Ware), and although it is present in the real world we live in as authors, and present in the Midgard Realm we play in, it is not considered a Raw Ware in the Midgard Realm. Therefore, it is not used (or needed) in the Midgard Realm Roleplay. There are many more Wares for you to discover in the Midgard Realm, however, we have limited these, because we just don't have the time to list every single thing possible, as well as all the elements within each of those categories. Besides, limiting these Wares, within each of the Realms, gives members the ability to create from what is given to them, thus expanding from the basics we have already provided. There is a massive amount of resources already provided as basics for members, and Outsiders, to go on, if they take the time to read.

Cosmic Realm

  The Cosmic Realm is again, another supernatural world. Similar to the Astral Realm that lies atop the Midgard Realm, the Cosmic Realm lies above (and around) these two Realms. The Cosmic Realm of Akasha is located in the space around us. Not just MORTAL us...as authors, or characters in Midgard, but those in the Astral Realm as well. The higher the frequency your character can observe, the more they can explore, and the further out the possibilities could go. For now, we have given you three Realms. These three Realms are important, as they are the Realms you will learn to play in. Don't worry, there is room for massive expansions, and we have given you guys so much to start with, just here. As we grow in size, our stories will begin to unfold, and the worlds around us will intersect. You will need to understand the Realms you play in and be able to distinguish between them, or it could end up detrimental or even fatal to your character.
