Moonsworn

The leader of the Watchblades, who protect the Midnight Elves, the Moonsworn takes his title from Erandul, thought by many to be the first Watchblade, despite the organization being founded five years after his death. The Moonsworn is the supreme commander of the Watchblades, and is always blessed by Umbra.

Qualifications

The Moonsworn is elected from the Five Watchers, the commanders of the different divisions of the Watchblades.

Requirements

Since the founding of the Watchblades, each Moonsworn has been a Midnight Elf.

Appointment

The Moonsworn is taken into office by a simple ceremony witness by at least five platoons of the Watchblades, including all five Watchers. During this ceremony, the Moonsworn takes a solemn oath under moonlight to protect and serve the Midnight Kingdom, and the Midnight Elves. In recognition of the oath, Umbra, the patron god of the Midnight Elves, will bless the Moonsworn.

Duties

The Moonsworn serves as supreme commander of the Watchblades, and holds two offices in the government of the Midnight Kingdom: Governor of Nalar, and Official Liaison.

Responsibilities

The Moonsworn is responsible for the overall coordination and logistics of the Watchblades, as well as serving as the foreign liaison for the Midnight Kingdom.

Benefits

The Moonsworn enjoys access to more luxurious holding and some rarer food that come with a high salary, but typically, the Moonsworn otherwise lives no differently than the people he commands.

Accoutrements & Equipment

The Moonsworn enjoys access to finely crafted mithril weapons, including Urpathal, the rapier wielded by Erandul himself.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

In cases where a Moonsworn goes against his oath of office or deliberately acts with harmful intent against the Midnight Kingdom or the Midnight Elves as a whole, his Blessing of Umbra will fade, and he will be dismissed.

History

Ever since the first leader of the Watchblades, each new leader of the Watchblades has taken the same title, out of respect for Erandul.

Cultural Significance

The title of Moonsworn is considered one of the highest honors in the Midnight Kingdom, as it is the only government position that requires the approval of Umbra.
