What is Song?

Song is a world of the woodlands, with the massive Sidhal Forest covering three of the five continents, in all around the size of Australia combined with the Eurasian super continent. The remaining two continents also have forests, but these are tiny comparatively. Of the two, Kindal is covered by deserts and floodplains, similar to areas like the fertile crescent or Egypt. The final continent, Jutlan is a continent of extreme peaks and jagged valleys, where winds spiral overhead in mystic spirals. The mountains of Jutlan guard a massive inland steppe however, and the nomadic peoples live in relative safety.   Many races inhabit the world of Song, including all the races described in the core rulebooks(dungeons and dragons 3.5e). In addition, there are three new races added: Leonin, the mortal descendants of the Leonals, Wood Dwarves, Dwarves who have adapted to surviving in the Sidhal Forest, and Kitsune, mysterious foxfolk who live longer than elves, their innate power allowing them to pretend to be gods to minor peoples.   Humans live on all five continents, and mostly form isolated colonies that trade extensively with locals. Interestingly enough, humans do not hold the majority of power in the word of Song.   Elves of various types hold true power in Song, with the treetop cities stretching over massive swaths of the Sidhal Forest. The elves hold control over all the continents save Kindal and Jutlan, in which they have a token presence.   Dwarves mainly reside in the mountains of Jutlan or the sprawling Trenford Caverns in Nimestra. The dwarves tend to keep to themselves, but maintain contact with the gnomes and the elves, the latter out of respect for the reach of their influence.   Gnomes mainly reside in Nimestra, and act as a go-between for the Dwarves and the Elves. They are few in number, however, and tend to not be seen outside their enclaves unless needed as a diplomat or interpreter.   Halflings live almost exclusively in Jutlan, the massive Barrier Mountans protecting them from contact with all but the Dwarves and the most determined Humans.   Leonin live in both Kindal and Jutlan, but tend to avoid land that is not plains or steppes. Leonin have a fairly cordial relationship with all races, but distrust dwarves and humans.   Wood Dwarves, unlike their subterranean cousins, live in Sidhal, the largest continent of Song, and the continent from which the Sidhal Forest gains its name. Wood Dwarves have much closer ties to elves and humans than their cousins, and have a significant presence in any integrated elven community. The racial enmity between dwarf and elf does not extend to wood dwarves, and relations between the two races are extremely friendly, the two having banded together to fight off monstrous humanoids countless times.   Kitsune tend to keep to themselves, and rarely interact with other races. The kitsune tend to live either deep in Sidhal or near the foothills of the Skyraker Peaks that separate Sidhal and Altum.
