Sun Crystals are a natural resource within the world which glow with a rabid hot intensity. Though there is much more to these crystals than just simple light production. A Sun Crystal is considered a silicone based lifeform. A pod of them is produced in geode like shell growing within the ground with the proper materials present. The geode will slowly push itself to the surface using crystal veins that will push itself through the ground.
Once it reaches the surface, the geode will begin to 'bloom' over the course of several years. The oldest existing sun crystals have reached a towering height of around 300 meters tall. (Around the size of the effiel tower.) These oldest existing ones will usually exist nestled inside mountain valleys where they have been allowed to grow undisturbed. Smaller amounts of one exist, usually being regulated by the local governments and systematically 'pruned' within reason.
A Sun Crystal once it begins to take root will start a long process of absorbing light and using the heat to exude. Sun Crystals in comparison to other forms of Crystelline lifeforms, are considered one of the fastest acting Silicone based lifeforms. Their entire life process can begin and form within 40 years, and their blooms are even faster, often being able to reach substancial height of 50 meters within 10 years.
Their expansion is aided from heat from the sun. Once their veins reach the Underbelly, it has a dual purpose. While it provides light for the Mortalis and Beasts of the underbelly, it also provides the Sun Crystal more stabilization.
The practical uses for Sun Stones involve portable light resources that can be recharged simply by them being in sunlight. Sunelves in particular incooperate sunstones into their stones, which allow their city to shine as if it is made out of crystals.
