Temporal Dampening is a condition which orignates from Mortalis living in or around the Archwoods, or having an ancestor that lived near or around the Archwoods. It appears to be a consistent cognative dissosiation. Also called 'Blinking Sickness', the disease has a simple description, but a cyclic and horrible experience. You will live your life within seven second intervals, and not remember any previous ones.
Thought to be deteriation of the temporal lobe, Temporal Dampening worsens over time, starting with mild forgetfulness as children, advancing to the 'seven second' sickness by their 30s, and finally a catatonic state of complete mental awareness by their 60s.
In its early stages, memory loss is mild, but with late-stage Temporal Dampening, individuals lose the ability to carry on a conversation and respond to their environment. Temporal Dampening is the sixth leading cause of death within the entirity of Mortalis Humans. On average, a person with Temporal Dampening will keep journals to try to help them remember.
Adahlen, the natural inhabitants of the Archwoods, do not seemingly develop this disease. It is thought to be a direct result of the corpse of Chronos, causing a more fragile minds perception on time to be gradually broken down.
By the time an individual develops the Seven Second symptom, will be well after they have created an identity, which has caused a symtpom of the disease to be aggression based in frustration, alongside severe mood swings. Crying in one seven second period, can result in confusion in another seven second period on why one was crying.
Treatment has been unable to found, and most sufferers of the disease are either kept at home and tended to by their families, or sent to Gloomdeep (Uscon's Aslyum/Doctor College) to undergo medical experimentation in an effort to understand this disease better.
There has been slight news with a particular root called 'Cavvial Root' that exists within the Archwoods allowing for longer cognative understanding, some outcomes ending in someone able to remember for a whole minute, but the Adahlen of the Archwoods have been extremely uncooperitive with providing these roots, which has caused many talks between councils of the Uscon Empire and Izaius-Cu Collective on a plan to pilfer resources from the Archwoods.
