The Council of Four

The Council of Four, who's members are each reffered to as Grand Dukes, are the executive body of Baldur's Gate. Grand Dukes are typically made up of the city's wealthiest and influencial individuals, who are elected by the Baldurian Parliament to serve for life. In times of great strife, the Baldurian Parliament, alongside members of the Council of Four, can unanimously elect an "Archduke" with emergency powers, who's will supercedes both council and parliament. Historically, this has never been done. Yet.
