Plateau of Leng
The Plateau of Leng is a huge, circular expanse of flat, rocky-land nestled amid the surrounding mountains. It is surrounded on all sides by sheer-cliffs that descend to flooded gorges that cut into the ground far below.
The plateau has an elevation of approximately five kilometres and has a cold, inhospitable climate. Occasional mounds of snow gather around the sides of base of the scattered boulders and sheets of invisible ice make each step treacherous. A thick, freezing fog gathers over the high plain night and day, and a muffled sound, like distant, plaintive and tortured cries, echoes through the still air.
The flora on the plateau is sparse and unusual. Giant, web-like, black, bloated lichen carpet much of the ground, punctuated by fields of razor-sharp thorn-bush and copes of skeletal, black-wood trees. Likewise fauna if not abundant, is certainly not absent from the plateau, and though many of the beasts are cousins of those found in the rest of the world, they are much more vicious and primordial, and across species are unified by a sickly-yellow cast and misshaped forms.
Whilst its geographic features make the plateau an unnerving and disquieting place, there is something beyond the natural about the environs that infects those who trespass onto its grounds with a haunted paranoia. There is a spiritual malaise to the place, one that grows in maddening intensity the closer one gets to the dread city of Leng that protrudes like a spur of diseased bone from the centre of the plateau.
