Common Foods

Common fruits include:
  • Artocarpus: A light yellow segmented fruit, with a hard green outside, it tastes like a cross between a pineapple and a mango. When you encounter an Artocarpus, you might think it is rotten but that is just its way of driving off anything that might want to eat it. Once you peel it the smell should go away, if it doesn't or the smell gets worse, it might actually be rotten. Artocarpus grow in groups of two on tall trees. They commonly grow in the Keyinik forests and full-grown Artocarpus trees can produce up to 200 fruits in a season. The fruits grow from yellow flowers and ripen to about 25 inches in diameter during Linate and Dunnaka.
  • Rambutan: This hairy red fruit may look inedible but when you remove the skin you are greeted with a tart white fruit. Rambutans are about 2 inches in diameter. They grow on bushes just about everywhere on the continent and come into season in early Manzo.
  • Fujan: These ones look like hard raspberries but are a lot less satisfying. They are a bright orange fruit inside a light tan shell. Fujan are very sweet but are mostly used for decoration as they have a large black pit inside them. They grow in clusters on the west coast cliffs. They are ripe from the end of Valzit to the middle of Owuh.
  • Ninchi: These fruits are jet black on the outside and pure white on the inside. They are crisp and mildly tart. Ninchi are poisonous to the Keyaniks but are completely edible for everyone else. They grow all over the continent and are about 5 inches in diameter. They grow from white flowers very liked by butterflies and small birds. They ripen in early Dunnaka and stay ripe until late Tanet, though the later in the year you pick them, the softer they will be.
  • Saxfruit: These fruits have a thin deep blue skin and are white inside. They are soft and a little tangy, like plums. The blue pigment from the skin seeps into the white flesh and a ripe Saxfruit will have blue streaks reaching almost to the middle. They grow in marshes and are especially prolific in the Northeast delta. They are in season for four weeks in Trek but can be dried, and made into jam to preserve.
  • SOMETHING: This is a sour green fruit that grows mainly in the forests north of the Onlynn Mountains. The fruit ripens in early Mosnask and becomes a deep purple. As it does so the enzymes that make it so sour are broken down and the fruit becomes poisonous. It is only safe to eat when green, though one strand becomes poisonous but does not change color so to be on the safe side it is recommended that you only eat them in Dunnaka.
  • SOMETHING ELSE: reverse fruit, you can't eat the gelatin consistency inside but you can eat the peel, just scrape off the inside part and enjoy
