The Hooks

A notorious hate group. Some still call the gang by their original name, the Fishhooks. They renamed themselves after expanding from purely Somur targets. The Hooks started out as a group of assassins and black-market merchants that would kill and/or rob somur for their technology. Over time, as they gained more affluence and influence, they came to inhabit a certain sector of regulator-watched space. The officer in charge of the zone never really does anything about it, and the public suspects why for two reasons: one, that the gang pays him; and two, the guy is already a notorious racist. To make matters worse, a high-ranking Hook member came into possession of several colonies in the sector. He charges next to nothing for rent, attracting lower-class inhabitants (mainly naza) and luring them into a terrible trap. Colony buildings are “unfortunately and uncontrollably” rife with crime. A lot of the bad stuff that happens there can be attributed to Hook activity.
