The Ardo plant is a flowering plant native to
Ocarro.
Appearance
The Ardo plant is a seemingly small plant looking at it from the surface, being a small plant with a long bendy stem with long grass-like leaves branching off of it. The plant tends to only be one and a half feet tall in total. The leaves of the plant can be quite sharp and can even cut the skin if one is not careful and brushes against them too fast.
The plant grows blue star-shaped flowers that bloom in the early spring and are fragrant. As the growing season comes to an end, the flowers dry up leaving many seeds with fluff that can be blown away by the wind to grow new plants at the start of the next growing season.
The Ardo plant has an extensive root system and grows corms to store water and nutrients for times of drought. These corms allow the plant to grow back after the dry season without having to wait for more rain or nutrients, although this does not mean that the plant can live without rain and nutrients for extended periods of time.
Uses
The plant's corms, which are harvestable every few months if the weather is right, are edible and are a staple food in traditional
Ocarran food and were the main plant food in the planet's diet before the introduction of Iagus grain.
The leaves, stems, and roots of the plant may be gathered and dried for later use in basket weaving and in textiles, however, these practices have been mostly defunct except for people who sell traditional baskets as art. They also may be used in insulation for cold chilly nights in the ocarran desert, again, however, these practices have been mostly replaced by modern technology and heaters.
The plant’s flowers are also a reason people will have this plant as the blooms are quite pretty and fragrant as well as being a symbol of beauty and fertility in Ocarracn culture and depicted in many art and crafts projects. The flowers may also be used in perfumes as lotions for their scent.
