A Hologram is a term used to describe three-dimensional projections. The technology used to display three-dimensional images is called a holo-projector, more commonly known as Holotech.
The technology is quite common and widespread, even on the more backwater planets where it is used a bit more sparingly but is still used.
Devices
Holograms and their projectors are quite common, being used in ads, displays, and entertainment. They are also used for virtual reality simulators, but these require much bigger projectors and more maintenance so they are more uncommon. They may even be used in bionics to allow the person to project holograms from their hands or another body part.
Holoscrenees and computers, may display both two-dimensional viewings and display three-dimensional depending on the user's preference.
Usage
Holodisguises
Holodisquises is a term used for holograms that are used to disguise a person’s appearance. Most Holodisguises are only partial, a project of a mask or an effect on or around the person, with some projecting faces or a whole new body over the persons existing one. They sense and move with the wearer's movements, with more expensive ones working better than others.
People are required a license to own and to make and they are highly regulated due to their potential to be used in crimes, at least in the
Galactic Coalition. They are sometimes used by people working undercover, as well as by the general populace mostly for things like costumes and cosplay.
It is important to note the holo disguises are only projections and that they cannot be touched, meaning that if someone is using them to hide their identity they should be careful that that trait doesn’t give them away.
