The Ocarran Republic is the governing system of the planet Ocarro. It involves two congressional houses and the executive branch is led by a President all of which are elected to their positions by Ocarran citizens.
This government system has been used for the past few centuries and was formed when Ocarro started to get more established and the planet became more unified. Before this, the native clans and regions functioned relatively autonomously with no centralized government.
Ocarran Congress Houses
Ocarran Senate
The Ocarran Senate is the upper congressional house made up of government officials that is in charge of legislative decisions. The officials are elected by the people of their respective region via a majority vote during an election year, the senators hold eight-year terms and every two years a fourth (a different fourth every time) of the senate’s terms expire so there needs to be an election.
The Senets job is to focus on things like constitutional amendments and approving certain government officials that the president nominates such as the representative sent to the
Galactic Coalition House of Representatives.
The Senate is bicameral with two political parties each with their own leaders. These two parties are each in charge of nominating their own presidential nominee from within their own ranks, although these are not the only presidential nominees as there are often a few independent runners as well.
Senators are elected to represent the people of the region they live in and often have a background in politics already, often having been members of the lower congressional house, the House of the People.
The House of the People
The House of the People is the lower congressional house in the Ocarran congressional system, made up of representatives from the different regions of Ocarro. They are elected by the people in their respective regions, through a majority vote, and all the representatives are elected at the same time with the terms lasting four years.
The House of the People is more focused on budget, supply, and monetary laws and issues, the stuff that has to do with the daily running of the planet.
The President
The President is elected by a majority vote from the people, however, the two main candidates are nominated by the two parties in the Senate, with each party having one Nomine respectively. The President is the head of the executive branch and wields the power to dissolve the Congress houses
The President holds office for six years, and can only hold office for two terms whether they are consecutive terms or not.
