Ram-headed Lizard

The Ram-headed Lizard is a reptile native to the planet Cirelia.

Appearance

Ram-headed lizards tend to be around one to two feet in length with rough scaly skin tending to be in green, gray, or somewhere in between, with darker stripes.   They have four legs, are quadrupedal, and straighten their front legs to be taller when on alert for predators or other threats. They also have claws on all the digits both back and front, and use them for protection, hunting, and for digging.   They also have long paddle-like tails that are around a third of their total body length, with large crests at the top of their head, males tend to have obscurely big crests compared to females.

Biology

Diet

Ran-headed lizards are omnivores, meaning they eat other animals, insects, and plant materials. They mostly eat leaves and stems on plants as well as eating bugs. They also often will eat the eggs of birds and other lizards, as well as sometimes eat small birds and rodents.

Behavior

Ram-headed Lizards spend much of their time during the day sunbathing and tend to be more active during the evening and night and they usually hunt for food around this time of day. They are also great swimmers and use their paddle-like tails to propel them through the water and their arms and legs to steer.   It is important to note that while they may sunbathe together, they are solitary hunters and can be territorial when it comes to food. They use their head crests, especially the males, to fight off threats or challengers. They also use head movements and bobbs to communicate with each other.   They dig burrows and lay eggs in them, normally in clutches of around twenty to forty eggs, with the parents providing no protection to the eggs or the young that hatch from them. The young that hatch from these eggs tend to live in a group together until they reach maturity when they mostly go their own ways.

Uses

Tan-headed lizards are not domesticated and most live in the wild but some may be kept in zoos or as exotic pets.
