Spiked Khivin

The Spiked Khivin is a mammal native to the planet Thunus. They are mostly wild but may be kept as exotic pets.

Appearance

The Spiked Khivin have a long and slender body type with four legs and a long tail. Their front paws are slightly paddle-shaped, which helps them dig and burrow and they have claws. They have long narrow faces and narrow muzzles with long tongues that they can use to catch bugs and insects.   They tend to be sandy or beige in color something that would help them blend in with their surroundings, and are covered in sharp flat quills with some fur in between each quill. These quills are used for defense and they can puff up their quills to spike their attackers when provoked or frightened.

Biology

Diet

They are omnivores and mostly forage their food from the ground, digging into insect nests and eating plant shoots. They utilize their long muzzles and long tongues to get into the insect nests and to catch and eat them easily.

Behavior

They are mostly solitary animals, only living with others when they are babies and living with their mothers or when they are a mother themselves and raising their own young. They have live birth, tending to have litters of four or five, which the mother then raises until they are old enough to be on their own. The father is not involved in the life of their offspring.   They use their forearms and claws to dig into the ground, both to dig into insect hives for food and to create burrows for them to live and sleep in. They are very territorial over their burrows and will often charge anything that gets to close with its quills out.

Uses

The Spiked Khivin mostly live in the wild and in mostly in nature reserves and the few remaining natural areas on Thunus. They also may be kept as exotic pets and there are many kept in zoos.   Their quills may also be used in art and fashion, but they are not commonly used today.
